To Trade or not to Trade?

I keep on debating whether or not I want to get rid of my 01 CLS. I've been debating keeping it and getting the SC Kit, headers, exhaust, intake, etc, but I can't justifiy the $6K that this will cost. I've been looking at the Mitsubishi Evo 8 MR (coming out in a few months) and this car looks great on paper. Every review I've read has given props. to this car. The $6K I could spend on mods for the CLS, could also be put down on the Evo8.

Give me some insight and opinions regarding this.

Thanks

The only prob i see with the EVO is the dealers will gouge you on the pricing for awhile, especially if the supply is very limited. I'd upgrade the CL-S and have fun with it and get the EVO in a couple of years.

Personally, i find the power to two front wheels fast enough. If I were you I'd get some CT sways and adjustable shocks and improve the handling of the car.

Evo8 is fast but it lacks the luxury feel of the CLS so it's a tradeoff. The only way to have your cake and eat it to is to get an E55 LOL

The cheapest car out there is the one in your driveway... (at least that's what I tell myself when I get the urge to buy something else).

I’d personally put that 6k towards upgrading your existing CL but I’m biased.

You do however make a very good point in that it may not be worth it to you to upgrade the car you're in now. So what’d I do is hold off on doing anything and wait until the MR hits the dealerships. Go out and test drive one and if you really think the car is worth selling your CL over, then do it.

If you decide you’re really not feeling the interior or that the performance upgrade isn’t worth the price of admission, and make no mistake the MR would be a huge upgrade in performance over the CL, then pass on it and come back and mod up your CL.

For me right now there’s nothing in the $35-45k price range worth getting IMO.

Thanks all. I'm not sure what my final decision will be, but I obviously have time to wait since the car is not out yet. I've rode in an 04 Evo8 and it is pretty loud (engine whine, road noise, etc), but it's fast as hell. The seats in the thing wrap around you which is nice, but I would definitely miss the luxury of my existing car.

What about the new TL or TSX? Any news on mods for these guys?

Thanks

I'm sure that CT and the other vendors will be cranking out the stuff for these cars soon (if not already). For me, I wouldn't even consider the TSX 'cause it's a 4 cly. My last car had a V8, so a 260hp v6 was ok, but I think I'd be in shock with a 4 banger...

I've got a thing against Mitsubishi vehicles (unless it's something from their heavy equipment division). Don't know why either....

you could keep your CLS and save the 6k for future tranny replacements

You have to decide if your CLS will be a long term keeper for you or not. Once you get even closer to that 6yr/100k mark, the value will be extremely low (yes, even lower than it is now). Its a discontinued car (cancelled due to low sales when they were new), with a know bad tranny issue. Acura ditched us big time on this model.

IMHO Keep the car, sell it privately, invest your $6k.

Mitsubishi is planning to produce 1000 MR editions only right? Wow you would be special, especially when people who knows about Evo see the black triangular thingys on the back of the roof.

thats a tough choice between keeping it a while longer and trading it in. but i wouldn't put that 6k into upgrading it, especially since its not a 6mt. if that were the case i might consider it. but i don't think its worth upgrading the auto's. hold onto it for a little while longer until something comes out that you really want. It doesn't sound like you are sold on the EVO, if you were, you probably wouldn't be asking this question. Keep the CL for a while until something really grabs you.
