trade-in for 2002...

Hi,

like everyone opinion on this.

i own the cls a little over 7 months now.

since the cls is coming with 6-speed in the fall. If the gear ratio is perfect and improve performance. I am thinking about trade-in my current cls and get the 2002 cls.

i asked few dealers, the best trade in price for my cls is CAN$34000, that's 15% lost. i paid CAN$39589+tax for my 2001 cls.

Let say i can get the 2002 for $40000+tax.

that means i need to pay

(40000-34000(trade-in))X1.15(15% tax)=$6900

to get the 2002 cls.

my question is will you guys do it?

sorry for the long post!

Thanks alot

Personally I think 7gs is wasted money. You bought the car..you might as well keep it for at least 3 years.

I agree. I am financing my car. I would have to pay the $3K in finance charges + depreciation + another couple thousand to finance the new car. It's just not worth it.

Gotta go with Spiro on this one. Drive your current car for at least another 2-3 years. By then, the next gen CL will be out with more power, 6 spd tranny with the right gear ratios, better sound system, and a sunroof that opens wider and with less noise.

Yeah, but that's only $4500 in US Dollars. Still a lot of money. Wait a while and see if the 6 speeds pile up on the lot. Then you can get it cheaper.

I'm in the same boat as you. I bought my CL-S about a year ago, and am now also angsting over whether to get a 6-speed 2002 in the fall.

I think I'll do it. While it stings to take a 15% depreciation hit after only one year, the car will only be worth even less after 2 or 3 years. For me, I'm looking at the difference in cash outlay: how much will I have to pay on top of my current car to get a 6-speed CL-S? That difference will be minimized right now, and the spread will only get bigger over time as the 2001 continues to depreciate.

So, waiting 2-3 years you might feel like you've gotten your "money's worth" out of the 2001, but it will still take more cash out of pocket to get a 6-speed than it would cost now.

Just my $0.02.

Tough call............a 6 spd might even be better balanced too, at least a 60/40, maybe even 58/42 instead of 63/37. Thoughts?? But alas, I own mine and love it more now that it's paid for. Have to keep it. If I were making payments, I don't think I'd feel the "hit" so badly since I'd basically just be "swapping out" payments--so I'd probably do it!

My current plans figure on waiting until 2003, but if the 2002 impress’s me enough during the test drive, it’s goodbye SLUSH-SHIFT.

I only owe about 15K on mine right now, so I could probably take the hit with a slightly higher payment on a 2002.

It's definitely not worth it to me. Plus, I don't care to have the 6-speed anywho. I drive in traffic too much and manuals are such a pain!
