Trade in = ass rape
I just left the Nissan dealer looking at a $34,000 350Z. I wanted to trade my 2003 CLS-6speed with 33k miles and in perfect condition with new tires. They offered me $17,500 for it. I immediately walked out and went to the Infiniti dealer and looked at the G35 coupe. It beats the 350Z hands down. Now, all I have to do is find one with Navi and the other options I want. We didn't discuss trade because they didn't have the one I wanted.
What should I expect for trade in value for a 2003CLS-6 with 33k miles and in perfect condition?

wow. What a ridiculous offer. Why are you trading in? I would expect at least 23k for the CLS trade in. Remember, you only get taxed on the difference when you buy your new car, so as long as you get a GOOD trade in offer, no point wasting your time to sell privately. You make up the money on the taxes

according to kellys blue book the value is 19,500. for a trade in the 33,000 miles is what hurts, if you only had 12,000 miles on it it would be worth 23,500, you're loosing 4 grand on the milage.

I had hoped to get at least 21,000, but that's not looking likely. Also, the dealers aren't willing to negotiate much off the sticker on the G35 coupes with Navi. They're too hard to come by.

In Pa, if you sell privately before buying a new car, some of the dealers will do the paperwork for you and treat the deal like a trade in on a new car, thereby saving you that much in taxes.

I just checked KBB and it said I could get $25,650 for a trade on my CLS. I didn't realize mileage is such a big factor(only 9,000 miles).

What I would do is put the car on sale to sell it myself. Ask 23K or so. If I cant sell it after 2 months, I would go to CarMax and get anything they offer me. No negotiating there. One price offered, take it or leave it.
