Track Times

Prior to tonight the best I was able to run was 15.02 sec in the 1/4 mile. I think it was about 80 degrees that night. Then, the last time I went it was 98 degrees and 15.2 was all I could pull. Most of my runs were 15.4 and higher which was really disappointing for me.

Here are my results tonight in the wonderful 50-60 degree temps:

Run 1
14.873 @ 93.58mph. Beat the crap out of Anthony because he screwed up a shift and ran 16.0!! hahaha

Run 2
14.790 @ 94.92mph. Soundly beat Anthony again. I even screwed up on this run hit the rev limiter when going from 2nd to 3rd. This is now my personal best.

Run 3
15.084 @ 93.23mph. Completely screwed EVERYTHING up. Forgot to turn off the traction control so I spun and felt the engine power being cut. Then, I hit the rev limiter in 1st AND 2nd. Despite all this I still beat a '92 Mustang GT 5spd. haha

Run 4
14.935 @ 93.35mph. Beat the same Mustang GT again.

Run 5
14.961 @ 94.08mph. Beat a 2002 Maxima SE automatic. This was a VERY VERY close race. He screwed up cuz he ended up running a 15.6 @ 73mph. I think he hit the rev limiter or something in 2nd. He was right there and then something happened. But I had a better 60', 330', 1/8 and 1000' so I would have won regardless :P

Run 6
15.010 @ 92.54mph. Beat a 5.9L Dodge Dakota pickup. I have a **little** more respect for these now. They have so much torque. He killed me off the line but I reeled him in and walked his ass in 3rd gear.

Run 7
14.981 @ 93.88mph. Lost to a modified '91 Corvette 5spd. He smoked me off the line even worse than the Dakota but I was reeling him in. He ran 14.624 @ 90.27mph. His 60' was 2.0 and mine was 2.3 yet he only beat me by .3 instead of .6. Plus, what's up with his trap speed?

All in all I'm very pleased with the performance of my car. I experienced a little wheel hop on all runs. I think if I could get rid of that (how I have NO idea) I could probably pull a 14.6.

Because of the cool weather it was really crowded. I was the 5th car in line at the gate and got 6 runs in during the first hour. The 7th run involved a 1 hour wait and I stopped after that.

A Viper ran 11.3 and a early 90s 4cylinder Accord 5spd ran 13.6!!! Obviously there was some sort of forced induction involved there.

Yeah I wasn't too happy with the way my car was running tonight, I did get 15.4 but still I really wasn't to pleased.

That first run I did the stupidest thing ever. when the light turned green I was in the D5 side shifting 1-2-3, hahah well soon as the light changed I shifted into second, dont' ask my why I did it but I just can't belelive I did that. I was kicking myself the whole way down.

I called my dad in the middle and I said what can I do to run faster, is there anything quickly, "he said no, go out with a girl, stop fucking racing, you have a fucking slow car. I would come down there and beat the shit out of you in the Jeep. Don't fuck up another car. It's not meant for the track. Til you can get in the 13s please just drive the fucking thing and stop trying to be mr. speed. I'll fucking talk to you tomorrow, I''m going to sleep."

you guys want to go down agian next friday? I'd like to see what my car will do in cooler weather. It ran a 15.4 when the temp was in the 90s.

Nice times i think you could get into the low low 14's with cold weather. I'm up in PA so 20 degree/30 degree weather is pretty easy to get.

haha... yeah, damnit Fred. It's all YOUR FAULT!!

I think I was just too excited. I've been waiting too long to get into the 14s cuz it seems like everyone else has been there for awhile!

I can go again next weekend... what the hell. Hopefully the weather will cooperate but it shouldn't be much over 65 degrees if it's not in the 50s.

heheh... give him a break - it was a '91. Only 250hp and about 250lb-ft and that generation of Vette was a brick - nearly as heavy as the CL-S. I don't think it was stock or he wouldn't have even been that fast!!

To get the fastest time I start out in D1, push the lever over to D2 at 6500rpm so that it shifts at 7200rpm just before the rev limiter. Then I immediately push it into SS while it's in 2nd so I can shift again at 7200rpm to go into 3rd. I'd recommend this only with headers cuz they increase the top end. Probably wouldn't help to shift past redline in a stock engine.

This technique is also prone to screwing up and bouncing off the rev limiter which I did about 3 times last night

Yeah 1200ft high and still 55-60 degrees out. A nice cold, crisp Winter night here in Phoenix.
