TPS and Transmissions.

does the throttle position sensor have any effect on how the torque converter and transmission functions?

i was coming home from work a couple of days ago when my car threw a cel. when it threw it, the torque converter unlocked itself and the transmission began shifting very hard.

the only code being thrown is the tps light.
my car has 196k miles on the original transmission. i would like to make it to 200k. before i purchase a new daily driver.

Yes. It is one of the two major guidelines for determining shift points in an AT.

Line pressure (for automatic tranny fluid) is determined by the combination of two functions, governor pressure (vehicle speed) and throttle pressure (TPS voltage/how much throttle is depressed)

well, i i found the problem. there was a little corrosion in the tps plug. i cleaned it up, used a little electrical grease and the car seems to be running perfect again.
