Toyota Crown
Toyota Crown
I was just wondering if Toyota were to import Toyota Crown as a Lexus who will it compete with?My guess is it'll go against Acura TL and BMW 5 series etc.
What do you guys think?

They are the equivalent of Ford CrownVics here. People use them as Taxis in Japan / Hong Kong!!
Of course the taxis are stripped version of the Crown. As far as I know, it's Toyota's land yacht...

back in the late 70's and early 80's, I believe toyota imported a Toyota Cresada, way before you guys time and it was the top of the line Toyota 4 door sedan. It didn't sell well in the USA !

I think Toyota have axed the Cressida altogether. Check out the current Toyota line up in Japan...

The Toyota Crown is a really butt ugly car. Atleast the version that I happened to see. The car was way over priced and it barely sold at all. It did have an ice box in the rear deck, which I thought was interesting. That was way back in about 1992 though.... but the exterior appearance still is very similar.
This one, the Toyota Crown Majesta looks kinda nice.
This one, the Toyota Crown Royal looks like a MBZ S class and a Buick put together.

I don't think Toyota would bring that car here. It looks too much like the Lexus (model above the GS, I'm drawing a blank for some reason) from certain angles, especially in that white/tan picture. If Toyota came out with a big expensive car like that, it would not sell well. However, throw a Lexus badge on it and you've got a winner. The Lexus lineup looks pretty set, so I don't think Toyota would bother bringing this one here.

If Crown comes, it might be stealing some other Toyota 4 doors' sales such as Avalon, LS430 and ES300, because the engine choices for this car is very board from 3.0 to 4.3, and it has some turbo versions if i am not mistaken. But not bad if it comes with a 3.0 twin turbo inline six, then it distinguishes itself from the other naturally aspirated 4 doors Toyota or Lexus have here.
