Toyota 2002 MR2 Spyder

I stoped by a local toyota dealer.

I checked the the Mr2, a nice small 2-seater. it had a 5 speed SMG and priced at $25k. Not bad seeing t an SMG at that price range. Where are you Acura? Still no SMG

I learned also, that they stopped regualr stick on the MR-2. Too much blown gearbox/engines with missed shifts.

I only whished they had dropped the Celica GTS engine (200 HP would not be a bad too!) on this little boy! It would be a nice weekend fun car

my coworker owns the 2001 mr2. it's a fun little car but too small for my tastes. he keeps threatening to put a turbo in.

HIGHLY modified I heard that they run well.

I personally think they look like shit STOCK.

I've seen some modded ones around here that were off the hook.

its an auto though, not a TRUE Manual,

and it would take a helluva lot of modding to hang with a STOCK S2000.

supposidely its a good car (nice tranny, 50/50 weight distribution), the interior feels kind of cheap... it strikes me as a girls car for some reason.

Turbo...get a kit from Japan...and say goodbye S2k.....just letting you know...with only 140hp...it runs low-mid 15s at the track. And the S2k is not everything that some people portray it to be.

You're wrong in respect to what is being talked about. The 2002 MR2 Spyder will be available with a true auto-clutch sequential manual gearbox. This particular tranny has been in existence since the beginning of the MR2 Spyder (called the MR-S in the JDM) and was developed by Luke, a German electro-hydraulic actuation firm. It wasn't available in the US at the beginning for the fact that there were quality and performance issues with it. 0-60mph performance actually worsened an entire second from what can be done with the conventional manual. It was presumed then that these issues would be overcome with time, and the fact that the tranny is finally coming to the US suggest that this has been achieved.

The price, power, weight, and fun-to-drive factor of the MR2 Spyder makes it an obvious competitor for the Mazda Miata. It has nothing to do with the S2K, which is designed and priced to compete (well, undercut is more appropriate) with Boxster-class roadsters. But if one insists on comparing the two, the $8K price advantage of the MR2 Spyder can make quite a bit of difference in your pocket or under the hood. Heck, the soon-to-be-released Blitz turbo kit is suppposed to raises output to ~200hp, giving the car Elise-like power-to-weight, for ~$4K.
