Torn CV boot...

Last night my outer passenger side CV boot ruptured. It seems odd that it should go out so soon. Has anyone else had to replace a CV boot yet? I realize that having a lowered car puts added strain on them, but I only have about 14,000 miles on my car with it lowered. My old Accord was lowered since the day I bought it and the CV boot went out at 60,000 miles. I think it's safe to say the dealer won't fix this under warranty.

a question ive always wanted to ask you

can you raise the car to any hight you want? or is it a touching the ground/5 feet up type of deal?

if you drive around with the car slammed all the way i wouldnt be surprised that a boot ripped. but if you only lower it all the way for shows, and raise it to a normal hight when driving, its probably just a fluke that it ripped

post how much it costs to fix. im curious. also, avoid driving so the cv joint doesnt loose all its grease and go bad. hopefully youll just replace the boot

I can set the height anywhere I like. When I drive I raise it to a level close to stock...that way I have no camber or alignment issues.

Now that I think about it, I remember hearing something smack my that wheelwell while I was driving lastnight. I wonder if something I ran over in the road sliced the boot??

Won't matter if car is driven or not. By lowering it all the way or raising it high and not moving it also puts stress on the boots and streches them over there limits. Things you have to deal with on your setup.

That definitely could be it. Drive shafts aren't too difficult to remove if you want to do it yourself. Helped a friend the other week replace both in his Accord. Just need a 2 jaw puller and a mallet to drive the shaft outta the hub. Then a pry bar to pry the shaft out of the tranny. Fairly simple, don't even need to drain the transaxle fluid. If you have a shop do it, shouldn't take them more than an hour.

I completely agree. The stock suspension setup is NO WHERE close to being able to handle that shit. Obviously the car just wasn't made for that.

Good luck on your trip to the dealership, 4 Pumped!

I bought a new CV boot, lube, and did the job myself. I think it cost a total of about $30.
