how can the top speed change w/ the addition of headers?

I thought it was based on the rev-limiter and the tranny gearing?

The rev-limiter will "hit" at the same RPM regardless of "setup"/mods".

The speeds (at least according to my speedo) look pretty close with the exception of 2nd gear. I know my speedo has hit 71-72MPH in 2nd gear (that's the speed where the rev-limiter kills it)..

I also don't know of a "dead accurate" calc site. The loaded radius of the tires will make the "true speed" -- not to be confused with the indicated speed -- change with tire size/profile/make variations...

check in the manual it should show you top speed for each gear.

and also you WILL be able to go a little faster in each gear w/ mods like cai, headers.

Uh, how will having a CAI make you go faster in 2nd? In 2nd gear, your speed is just limited by the hard fuel-cutoff rev limiter which is at 7200rpm, and the gear ratio in 2nd gear, not by the amount of power the engine can make...

Top speed for each gear is a function of the gear ratio , tires ( non-stock sizes) , Redline and it is independent of any performace mod.

Any performance mod will add to the acceleration of the car... i.e. time to get to a certain speed would be less....

Exceptions....

(Yes, you can you faster in 4th and 5th with the headers and CAI. The other gears don't care.)

Maybe its just my speedo, but it does "shows" 71-72 MPH before the fuel limiter cuts in. (I did the calcs too, and they seem to match...)

Totally..

Only way to change what speed you go in each gear is modifying the transmission. Or changing the rev limiter.

Speed per gear is calculated by taking your crank shaft revolutions and multiplying that by your transmissions gear ratio, then to your final differential ratio.

Even if you add NOS/HEADERS/CAI/SUPERCHARGER your still going to be at 7100 RPMS peak in all gears. Now if you remove the rev limiter and rev past 7100 rpms you'll get more speed out of each gear.

Good example. Is a bicycle (dirt bike with only 1 set of gears, very simple transmission) Lets say you have a pedal pumping limiter at only 1 pedal pump per second. So with this limiter no matter what you do your only going to be able to pump it 60 times in 1 minute.

Now you have a superstar athlete and person in avg. shape.

The athlete is capable of pumping the bicycle 200 times in 60 seconds. The avg. person is capable of pumping the bike 120 times in 60 seconds.

Even though the athlete may be able to pump that bike faster than the avg. person he is still limited to one pump per second. So no matter what, both people will only accomplish 60 pumps in 1 minute. As such both of their speeds will be the same, however the athlete will most likely not get tired
