Top speed?
Top speed?
Car has been broken in for a while now, and I had some fun with a friend in a Maxima, well after 130 he let off, but I kept on it because the car was accelerating hard. I actually hit 150, and it was still pulling, but I got a bit scared and let off. How fast can these cars go!? I was just amazed!
It was a long 2-3 mile strech of road you could see for miles ahead of you, no traffic. 4 lanes.

I too live in San Antonio and last week i was headed up towards dallas and i wanted to see the cl-s top speed. my cl-s is stock and i had 2 passengers. I could only get up to 124 mph
in my old 00 accord coupe i could easily get up to that speed but the cl-s felt like it struggled pass 105 mph. Maybe its time for me to get an intake...

Sidemarker, you don't need an intake, you need to get your CL-S fixed. It does 140 w/o a sweat--TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE!

Ha... that'd be funny.
"Um... Mr. Service Man. I tried to get my CL-S up to 150mph yesterday and I couldn't get it past 124mph. WTF!!!??? Can you fix it?"

I think I'd have a hard tiume taking my car in because I couldn't get it over 124mph.
I can't imagine why it had a hard time getting past that speed, though...
My car is still pulling very hard after 105mph. I haven't taken it to the limit yet but first through third is very strong. Fourth isn't near as strong but still pulls.
Is there a way to make 4th any stronger? Probably not
Oh well, I love this car!!

I did a late night high speed test about two weeks ago. The fourth gear problem isn't really that bad. Once I got to about 125 VTEC kicked back in and I flew to 135 before shutting her down, although she wanted more. Gotta love the scream of CAI @ 135.
Go in either sport shift or manually shift the gears to bring third right to the red line, so that when you shift into 4th you are almost in vtec. I have hit the speed limiter time and time again ang it is there. Sometimes when you go down hill and hit it, it feels like your hitting a wall, but you can definately do it.
The worst way is to let it shift into 4th early, make sure you really really really rev out 3rd, mine goes a little past the redline before hitting the rev limiter.

so what could be the problem? extra weight (2 passengers and a full trunk)?
i think ill go attempt for my top speed again.

The extra weight will surely cost a bit of top speed, but nowhere near the difference between 124 and 150.

Actually, weight has pretty much nothing to do with top speed. It has everything to do with acceleration. Your car should reach the same top speed with or without passengers or a full trunk, you just need to find a longer road to get there.

F=MA. The heavier an object is, the more force you need for the same acceleration. Or, the slower acceleration you get with the same force. A 2000 pound car with 200 horsepower will accelerate 1/2 as fast as a 4000 pound car with 200 horsepower.
But top speed is a direct relationship of power to drag. Once you get over a certain speed, virtually all of the drag is aerodynamic drag. (rolling resistance of wheels, friction in other parts of the drivetrain, all of this becomes completely meaningless compared to the air resistance).
The only way that weight has anything to do with top speed is if it upsets the aerodynamic balance of the car; such as putting 1000 pound weight in the trunk that lifts the front of the car up higher, or something equally silly.
A 2000 pound car with 20 square feet of frontal area, a CD of .30, and 200 horsepower, will hit a certain top speed. A 4000 pound car with the same specs, will hit that same exact top speed.
EDIT: (this model makes some assumptions, for example that the motor is making 200 hp right around the top speed; this would depend somewhat on gearing. But weight would still have no effect)

i have a tl-s i topped it out one night on highway us 27.... i was really amazed that i hit 150 thats when the governor kicked in. it actually kicked in so hard that when i hit it it propelled me forward. it was actually a scaryy experience even though the rush was amazing
