it took me 6 years and 221k.

to finally kill the original transmission.

i bought it december 24, 2004 and it lost third gear on december 24, 2010.

and i still haven't found an affordable car that i like more than my CL. i'll be getting the transmission rebuilt. maybe i'll get another 220k miles out of it again.

Good luck with the rebuild. I wouldn't do it. I'd dump the car as it's not worth anything anyway.

you are right. It isn't worth anything monitarily. It is worth the 1100 to me that the transmission will cost to rebuild to have a good daily driver. Everything else in the car works, and it's worth more to me than it is to sell it.

oh, and I haven't been easy on the car during my ownership of it. I also know the tranmission was original due to the fact that my next door neighbor owned the car before me.

I'd get newer TL or Oddysey tranny for cheap from craigslist or other sources or part it out.

isn't sportshift more straining on the trans than normal D5? I wonder if OPs car stayed in 4th or 5th gear for the majority of those 221k miles..

Stress put on the trans has already been PROVEN to not be a cause of failure. It either fails or doesn't, when it wants to. It's a inherent design flaw.

I hope mine lasts that long. Instead of rebuilding it, I would look into a TL/oddy trans swap. Much better chance that you'll get to another 221k with those trans then a rebuild.

When my trans goes, I'm definately doing the swap. I love the car and i've put too much into to it to just dump it. Its not worth much and worth even less with a broken trans so might as well fix it and drive it.

Well aren't the clutch packs pretty shoddy anyways?

I think its the design that restricts flow to certain clutch packs causing it to fail.

car is already at the transmission shop. i don't want to spend that much time looking for a different transmission. gas is getting too expensive to keep driving the truck.
