too much tranny fluid bad ?

I have a question, when changing tranny fluid, is it harmfull to add more than the required amount of tranny fluid?

I know it's bad to add too much engine oil b/c it will flow into areas where it shouldn't go and corrode spark plugs and such, but there isnt any combustion in the transmission so wouldnt extra fluid just stay in a closed system of lubricating the tranny?
I'm no mechanic so....

the reccomened amount is 2.7- 2.9 quarts. I think i have maybe 3.5 - 4 quarts in there.

This is what happened...Yesterday, I drove my car up on ramps and changed my oil (amsoil 20w-50 racing) and my transmission fluid (Honda ATF) at the same time. But alot of the tranny fluid leaked to the ground and made a big puddle on the driveway b/c the funnel's mouth had to fit over the hole for the tranny fluid instead of fitting into the hole (they make it soo small). So i added another bottle, but then when I checked the dipstick, it was like way above the full line. I drove it around and the car feels fine, but i was wondering if this will harm the transmission by having too much fluid in it ?

By the way, it's a good idea when adding new tranny fluid to put a clean pan under there to catch all the clean tranny fluid that leaks out to recycle it, otherwise you just waste all that fluid and make a big mess.

Too much tranny fluid is often more of an issue than too much engine oil. Too much can cause improper flow through the valve body resulting in slipping clutches, etc.

would definitely drain it off to the appropriate level.

When you overfill it can also allow the fluid to get churned around and aerated, which reduces its lubricating ability.

Doesn't overfilling it also put pressure on the seals???
