Too many CLs on the street!!!
I like my CL-S very much. Beside the couple of annoying rattles and minor drawbacks, it's simply one of the best cars in the low $30,000 range right now, period. I got mine exactly a year ago and it was rare and very cool. But I see more and more CLs in this Silicon Valley and I always run into at least several everyday, which I don't like at all. I know that people are buying the CLs for the exact same reason that I did, great car with great value. I guess I should've expected this to happen but I don't like my car to be like another Accord or Camry. No way.
About a year ago I made a deposit for 2002 Mercedes AMG C32 just to check it out or maybe for quick selling profit, but now I'm seriously considering to trade in my CL-S when it comes out in May or June. I used to have C280 Sport and I really miss its rear wheel driving handling and rock solid chassis, which Acura will never duplicate. For those who don't know what AMG C32 is; it's a 354 hp supercharged V-6 sport sedan from Mercedes/AMG. Its conservative number for 0-60 mph is 5.2sec, with automatic. I'm sure the real number will be below 5.0sec. (http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/5350/w203c32.htm). Several people I know are already very interested in buying my CL since they like my car so much, so I shouldn't have any problem selling my CL or trading it in.
For $50,000 expected MSRP, the C32 is not a cheap car and I'm not so sure it will be worth $20,000 more than my CL-S. But recently my stock portfolio has been going up and down (mostly down these days, the damn economy!), somehow the $20,000 doesn't seems like a lot. I've lost lot more in a single day in the stock market. Maybe it's not a bad idea after all to invest little more money in my personal transportation.

Living in the Bay Area myself I drive my motorcycle for commuting purposes, but when I do take the Cl-S on the weekends, I don't really see too many of these cars around... I see a black one going on North 880 around Milpitas/Fremont quite a bit (spoiler Type S), and I see a silver one very rarely, but certainly not nearly as often as i see the Integra, Accord, Camry, and Eclipse cars... I wish you the best if u sell for the Benz/AMC, but don;t make it sound like the Cl-S is way too popular now in the Bay Area... I just don't see it that way.. I will race you the 10 feet we have till the car in front of us. . :-) - and if you need the distance to get up to speed, let me pull out the bike. . . :-)

It's not 20K. Your CL is probably only worth $25,000 as trade. Figuring you purchase the Benz for $53,000, That's a 28,000 balance. $30,500 after tax and license. Not certain about luxury tax, but I'm sure that would hit you, but lets leave that out for now.
Plan on buying that cash? Your first year, that amount of cash would earn you some $100/month interest (after tax) in a money market account. Don't know how old you are or your record, but I would guestimate an $100 dollar/month increase in insurance for me. Plus lets just tack on an additional 20/month cost for driving (more gas, car washes, what not...).
Do own a house? If not, take 40% of your rent and add that to your amount of cash lost monthly. (that money could be going to equity on real estate).
If you don't mind a hit of $30,500 up front and 220/month (net) 338/month(gross) loss for ever month afterwards. 620/month (net)including possible real estate equity loss. Then buy it.

Very good analysis, my thoughts also when I was looking for a car + house. If he already has a house (paid or low mortgage) and he has plenty of money, I say GO FOR IT! I'd buy the AMG/Porsche/M5/etc any day if I had the money. You only live once!
I bought a ridiculously over-priced medium sized 40 year old house, I won't say how much but in silicon valley, it's laughable. My car is paid off, so all I have are the mortgage payments which are huge even with 20% down. 20-30k is a lot to me, no doubt, so I went for the 30k car with the biggest bang for the buck, nuff said!

Whoops my bad.
42,000.00 GBP
United Kingdom Pounds
=
60,321.69 USD
United States Dollars
Not 53k. Add about $8,000 more.
You could just buy yourself a TL-S for cheaper, have both cars and probably pay the same insurance.

There's only a few here in Kansas/Missouri, at least that I see.
If you are seeing a lot of CLs, there must have been a firesale in your area.

Have to agree w/ you on this one. there's two acura dealers here and the median house hold income ins 90k in fairfax. So many friggen people are buying the Type S because of its value and performance. simply can't get a better car for less than 35k PERIOD.

I hardly see any in my area.
I LIKE it that way.
The ones I do see are mostly silver.
I have only seen two or three RED ones on the road since I bought mine in JUNE.

I commute from Fort Worth to Dallas every day and rarely do I see another CL-S, or even a CL-P for that matter. I mostly see them when I pass the dealer on my way to work.
Hell, I see so many 3-series Bimmers around here that I think there are more of them on the roads than Accords or Camrys!

I usually see maybe 5 or 6 CLs a week. There is a silver one that I pass quite often on the way home from work not too far from Willow Grove. I saw it tonight on the way home. I mostly see silver or black and have seen an occasional red.

Even though I live in CA, there's no dealers on the central coast. The closest dealer is 2 hours away. This sucks for service and oil changes, but because of it, I think there's only 1 other CLS in my town and 1 CLP (our population is around 50,000). On the other hand, I see tons of 3 series.
