was told to come here and ask for ur guys expertise

I'm thinking about goin w/ the 05 TL Aspec...here r my questions...I love modding cars ...my current car is a 03 Mustang GT thats pretty well modded...its putting out 271rwhp and 315rwtq on just motor...I've been reading about the various mods that u can do to the TL..but what troubles me is that if u throw in a s/c u only get like 50whp?!?...isnt that kinda low?....and is it possible to bring the fwhp on the TL to 300 w/o any tranny problems...I plan on goin w/ the auto tranny b/c after 2 years of clutching w/ my mustang it can b a pain...and the only time I dont regret having the 5speed is when I'm racing other then that I'd prefer a auto if I choose to go w/ the tl.....

so is it possible to bring the auto tl to 300fwhp and not have to worry about the tranny goin on u..and is it just possible to even hit 300fwhp w/ the TL??...

like I said I really need ur guys expertise in this area as I only kno about mustangs and not a thing about modding acura's ...so ur guys help would b much appreciated...

I'm quite sure it is possible.

Plenty of member here have done it with auto CLS.

If you plan on heavily modding it, then you probably wouldn't want the 5-speed auto. Not much has changed from the UA4 and UA5 transmissions, and it's also under the ongoing transmission recall.

But the 6-speed manual has an apparent problem with torque-steer.

So it's a toss-up. But if you wanted to mod it, then I would say get a manual despite the torque-steer problem.

By the way, it's not often that I see a pony car driver switching to FWD. And it is very possible to hit 300 fwhp in the TL.

Check out the TL community on the board, and go to the 3rd generation section. They can give you more information. Good luck.

Not many performance mods have even come out for the 3rd Gen TL. Just springs and exhaust I believe.

Actually, it will be quite hard to hit 300 normally aspirated WHP in this car. In fact it would take quite a bit of work to do that. Forced induction is the only real direction to take.

Concerning the 5AT versus 6MT, you might want to try the TL's 6MT. You might find the clutch is much easier to live with than the pony car was.

If modding is your goal with the TL, get another car to mod. That's my view. The TL is FWD & limited to what FWD's can do. I'd go with the Z or G35.

but getting that power there might be a bit of a bitch. and I dont think you will ever escape the problems of the 5AT honda transmission ..

I'm sure the comptech s\c for the 04+ TL is going to be a pretty penny, well over $4K .. at 4K for 50 hp on a honda automatic tranny I think its hardly worth it. And fwd no less ..

I was going to do the blower but I decided its just not worth it for me. the car is automatic and fwd and its heavy, it will never quite be where I want it to be .. so I just decided to keep it the way it is and wait til I finish school then get something else with awd or rwd .. if I had bought the car 6spd I may have made up my mind differently however.

I think you should definately listen to Scalbert and test drive a six speed TL, I recently drove a mustang GT, and I have also driven a manual 04 TL, and I can tell you the clutch and shifter are worlds apart .. the whole feel of the car is worlds apart. you may find the TL bearable .. it would definately be worth it.

You might try visiting the "sister" site ... acura-tl.com.

i think 300 whp is not going to be easy even with boost. the engine on the 04 is pretty similar to 01-03 cl/tls.
some very well modified autos including mine are still not at the 300 whp line yet, but we are getting close.
my estimate would be that it would take a minimum of 5k, close to 6.5k including install to get closer to that number, but even thats not possible until comptech brings a FI setup for it.
so you would end up spending nearly 45k on this car when its all done. though it would be nice as hell, i would just get a g35c and drop some money on that one.
and if you say you dont care about manuals unless your racing, you might want to just consider a nos setup which would definately get you that 300 whp.

No, buy a different car to mod. If you ignore what I'm saying and you do get it make sure you buy the manual. Acura puts the same crappy tranmission in the 05 TL that they did the previous TL and our CL.

There's no finess in a high powered FWD car, it's a nasty driving experience if you ask me. Especially if it's wet out.

Ever driven a 300whp FWD car? it sucks. I'd suggest keeping the mustang and mod'ing it a lot more... OR G35c or 350z with a twin turbo setup in the price range your looking...

Actually the TL folks don't really know a whole helluva lot of modding and the ones that do are here anyway (I don't know all that much but am interested). personally I prefer it here over the TL site.

Anyway I agree with everything said here. Get the Manual if you plan to mod the TL and maybe save some money and skip the a-spec package, unless you really like the looks. You can everything else cheaper and have more options (like wheels and stuff). if you get the manual and mod it (FI) then you will have a very fun car at 300 fwhp but like everyone has said you will be limited somewhat by the FWD drivetrain. A good alternative might be the G35s or G35X (I'm assuming you want a sedan). If you really want the TL then go for it but like others have said it has its limitations.
