I was driving my dad's 99 TL yesterday and it didn't automatically shift from 1st to 2nd while in SS mode. Is this normal?

Its just those of use with 2000 and later models that are cursed with the auto shifting in SS mode. Your dad's car is normal.

Hmm, I bet there is some way to hack it. Also did you notice if it would not shift into 3rd some times like ours?

It seemed to shift fine in SS mode, except when I was in 1st the fuel cutoff kicked in, which was kinda shocking. I also noticed that the gap between 3rd and 4th didn't seem as large as the CLs.

I believe they have a lower 3rd gear top speed so there 4th gear kicks in earliar than ours so their 4th gears sucks even more than ours. Atleast we can take our 3rd gear up to 110~115.

The 99 TL was only a 4 speed automatic. Now it is a 5 speed automatic. The gearing from 1st to 2nd was further apart, therefore no automatic upshift was added then.
