TL-S Review in new MT (0-60MPH in 6.28sec)
Just got the new Motor Trend in the mail, they have a comparison of 6 sport-lux sedans including the TL-S which they show a 0-60 in 6.28 and 1/4mi of 14.7 @97.6 MPH which is essentially dead even with the 330i with 6.11, 14.65/97
Other notable, epa rating is 18/24 now...one of the worst of the bunch (though it was the only automatic!!!)

Dammmm it, I would love to see Mike's CLS on the Strip. Also, Webtoker, u r getting the pulleys, right ? are they installed yet?
That would be sweet kickin ass, smashing hard, squashing 'tangs, 'tegs, IS3, and some BMWsssss....
Another issue, what is that nosie I hear after I break and come to stop. It sounds like when the stock springs decompress, they start squeaking

The only difference between TLS and CLS is that the TLS is a few pounds heavier.
But it doesnt weigh nearly enough more to make any noticeable speed difference.
They are the same car. So why compare them?
0-60 #'s within milliseconds of each other should only be compared if both cars are at the same track under the same conditions.

I currently own a 2002 TL-S, and I've raced a Buick Regal GSE (you can read my topic in Racing Stories: TLS vs.GSE) and it was virtually a dead-heat. And the GSE has been touted as having a 6.6 0-60 and 14.9 1/4 time -- by virtually every car mag. Go figure --
I don't believe the 6.28 sec time -- but when it comes down to milliseconds -- squealing your tires at take=off could mean the difference between a time of 6.28 and 6.5 sec.
Peace

The R/T tests at least show the temp. But is that when they were getting their massages (from a preferred vendor), or the day of the car test.
And the temps were NOT 59 degrees (K, C, or F)!!!!

Well, I'm more of a motorcycle buff than a car buff. The m/c mags usually give 1/4 mile times with an *. The * usually says, "Performance with test-session weather corrected to sea-level standard conditions (59 degrees F, 29.92 in. of mercury)."
What's up with that?

In that BMW vs Acura CLS review, they were talking about driving the cars around in 100 degree temps. I do believe the remark about temps was buried in the copy of the article.
If R/T, C/D, M/T and others are going to have a back section with pages of respective car times, they really should have a note about temp, altitude, barometer.
Also, this is a bit off-track, but they never quite nail-down their test data in regard to handling. The M3 was tested in Europe at one point, they got the wheel sizes all screwed-up.
If someone drives around a skid pad and the skid pad is asphalt, but another skid pad is concrete; and yet another is glue-faced, what do the readings really prove?
The Dr. approves of a normalized/corrected 1/4 mile time. Wish the car mags would get with the program.

I was lurking in bimmer.org when I found the article in question. If you haven't read it, here's the bootleg scan. (No, it's not mine.)
