Tire Recommendations

What do you guys recommend as a good replacment tire for the OEM Michelin tires? I'm coming up at 50k and it's time to replace the tires.

I'm live in Southern Cali so it's wet sometimes but mostly dry.

Thanks.

so many ppl have so many diff opinions on tires... I like my S03s just fine. Some say they're heavy but I think they stick well so I like them. A lot of members have had good things to say about the ES100s and the Continental Contact something or other. Also the Nitto 555s I think some ppl were using.

How did you get 50k out of your stock tires? I got a little over 32 and I thought I was doing well compared to a lot of guys on here.

I am going to go with the cheapest tires, that is Sumitomo HTR+, its $74 on tirerack.com. I heard they are pretty good, some people say its even better than OEM. OEM tires are $170, fuk that.

Seriously, 50k from the stock tires? Wow, I got 21k.

Basically anything less than $170 per tire is better than OEM tires. I also have the Bridgestone S03, and they are incredible. Only thing I worry about is tread life.

Intrestingly, Sumitomo HTR+ or Continental Extreme, have much better thread life(according to surveys) than stock tires.... That's another reason I don't want stock tires.....

My sumitomos are more than 50% burned up. And I haven't even had them one year.

I'm not very satisfied with them. I will not purchase another set.

$400x2=$800 I should have spent in the 1st place.

And NO, I haven't been beating on them. I have never spun them intentionally

I really wish there was a standard wear rating system accross brands. Tire Rack says that the treadwear number is assigned by each manufacturer and isn't accurate when comparing brands.

Do you rotate your tires every 7.5K miles, when was the last time you did your alignment?

My OEM tires are at 31K miles, and are still good to go. Should easily pull out 50K miles. Sumitomo has higher thread rating than OEM michilines.

I went with Bridgestones re750's not as sticky as the 03s but a higher tread life. They were 140s each not including mounting,,,NTB price matched tirerack and charged me $10 mounting each but it comes with free rotation and re-balance My delivered price from tirerack would have been $630 including shipping,,, NTB it was $670 including mounting and taxes,,, you have to watch out for the price matching,, insure it includes taxes,,

Hey where in tustin do you live?

I just got my yokohama avs es300's mounted today...fuking AWESOME. Quieter, smoother, and handles much better, plus looks real sharp. Got em for $109/tire from tirerack....better than the $180+ for the stock.

Side note: got them mounted, balanced, and inspected at the Firestone dealer on the corner of Red Hill and Walnut...only $10/tire

Best tire for the money hands down.

Alignment when I put the tires on...

I had just put 7k miles on them. And was going to rotate them when I noticed they had less than 50% of the tread left.

OEM tires made it 40k in my car.

No...the tread ratings ARE NOT STANDARD. So the number really means nothing to the consumer. Since there is NO relation between tire manufacturers.

There is not documentation stating how long the HTR+'s should last.

I'm not imagining this man, LOL...

Do a search online for anyone who has miles on them. A lot of other folks have had them wear out quickly too.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....reModel=HTR%2B

(read the 1st review)

I don't suggest buying them ... Other tires can be had for the slightly more. Which will pay for itself in the long run. I expect to see maybe 20k out of them...

Not only are the Sumi's inexpensive, they're great tires. I got 45,000 out of the OEM tires then went with Toyo's. They were great too but a bonehead mistake on my part (got a bad alignment and didn't check the tires to notice the excessive wear) told me I needed something a little less expensive. So either way, the Toyo's or Sumi's would do you right.

I just bought BFGoodrich G-Force KDW-2's and so far, they have been the best tires I've used (compared w/Toyo, Michelin). They are a perfect combo of performance and comfort ( the 35series). Extremely grippy wet or dry, quiet, smooth and a SICK tread pattern. Only drawback is the price!

i got 45K out of my stock tires, i just ordered a set of pirelli 215/50/ZR17 P-Zero Asymetrico (i think that's how it's spelled) tires.

I'll let you know how those perform in the middle of the week if you are interested. they were 185 a peice, but they are a summer tire.

i was going to go with a set of P7000 Super Sports, which are an all season tire, i had this same set on my integra and they were really good, but i figured with the extra juice in this car i need a little bit more grip, and since i'm in cali no need for an all season tire.

i've tried falken's, kumho's, sumi's, pirelli's, and michellin's on both of my car's and so all of these tires have performed great! but my favorite's were the kumho's and the pirelli's. the next set i buy though are gonna be bridestone expedia s01's, been wanting to try those out, they are another set that are aviaible in the stock size and run about 180 a tire, and get this THEY ARE THE OEM TIRE FOR FERRARI'S!!! so you know they are a good tire.

manual or auto both have the same power, although its under better control w/ the manual. Driving in manual mode lets u test the car on tight turns and show what the tires could do

I put S03s on my car after getting rid of the POS OEM tire.

I put 225 45 17s on the car instead of the 50s. The handling was greatly increased. The tire also costs less than the original tire.
Yes there is more feel to the road but not much and the handling is superior.

Of course living in New England I will probably have to get a set of tires and rims for winter driving.

So are there any issues in going with 225 tires on the standard wheel?

There doesn't seem to be much selection for the 215 tires.

There were not issues at all. They are the same overall size as the OEM tires so there are no issues. The handling is much better I noticed it right away.

I just got a third set of tires: Nitto 555's. I've put 3k miles on them and they are still gripping like mad and very quiet. They were also only $127 a piece for 18's so how could I go wrong...

I just found this site yesterday . . . one of the better ones. Plug in the size and it gives you a list that has price and weight, which most don't have.

http://www.tiredlr.com/

Notice the Federal SS595, nice price, a little heavier than the Toyos, but almost half the price . . .

i've heard, dont know if it's true or not, that the Pirelli P7000 SuperSport are going to be or have been discontinued. I had these on my integra and i loved them they are an all season ultra-high performance tire (well that's what pirelli rates them at), and they had some really nice traction on them in all kinds of weather. And you can find these right now on tirerack.com for only $109 a piece!!!! that's a pretty good price for a pirelli all season tire that's also high performance!

I'm not too familiar with other all season high performance tires so hopefully someone else will chime in about other models.

Being that I now own Smitty's SO3 - I can tell you they ROCK. The car does not spin or slide nor do they make noise every time I let the clutch out. Now I have to find a way to mount my sub since every corner I take now the sub slides, but the SO3s STICK.

i wish my signature still popped up cause you would see that i have those now on my 18's. I'm looking for something different to wrap my stock wheels cause the pirelli's are way to loud. also, there is a little sway in the tires when i take an off ramp from the highway. thanks for the advice though... any other suggestions?

I suppose any tire performs well depending on the vehicle, they performed well on my integra, but then again the integra didn't weight as much as a CL, so there is more strain on the tire to grip so i can see where you are coming from in that respect, go with bridgestone perhaps?
