Tire question (running 225)

hey hey, long time no see....quick question for you guys...

I have SSR GT1s in 18x7.5 with a +45 offset and I'm running Comptech springs...when I have a full load in the car, my rear tires rub.

Now, I'm running 235 Bridgestone S03s...I had to get 235s over 225s because of weight-bearing issues. Do you guys know of any other tires I can get that will allow me to run 225s with my 18s? Or am I cursed to always run 235 and rub?

Thanks....

wow thats weird I have 18x7.5 Super Sixs +48 with CT springs and 235\40\18 Pirelli PZero Rossos .. even with 4 people and shit in the trunk I never rub. amazing how much +3 of offset makes a diff.

I think the 7.5 width also helps, because I have 18x 8 SSR GT1s with +48 offset and 235/40/18 Pilot PS2s and I still rub "lightly" on occasion with Eibach springs (which must be a little lower - or less stiff - or both) after some fender flange mods. I wish that the SSR 7.5" were also +48, and I think that would solve the problem. 225s should as well, I guess. Good Luck

The fit can be very, very tight and even a few mms can make a difference in rubbing. Even though a tire says 235/40-18 on the sidewall, it doesn't have to have the same section widths, tread widths, diameter, loaded radius, and other dimensions when compared from one make/model to another.

Add in the +3 higher offset difference (+48 to +52 range) is better for fit. the tire/wheel combo is tucked further inward relative to the lower offsets.

Just look for some 225/40s that have XL rating.

Toyo T1S: 225/40ZR18 92WRD (Load is 92 instead of 93)

Here is a Tire Rack link (look only at the tires with the XL rating. You will find a number that are good tires that will do quite nicely):

And, if you like shopping Tire Rack, and want to find a tire that Consumer Reports rated #1 in max-performance, check out the Goodyear GS-D3. It also comes in a XL rated tire. The reviews are excellent and I don't think you would be disappointed.

Cool, I'm going to get the Goodyears then, once my S03s are out of tread.

Btw, does anybody know if getting stiffer shocks would alleviate my minor rubbing problem? I rolled the fenders already, but no help...

Depends...

On some cars, the CT springs + SSRs (17 x 8" +48 offset) + 235/45-17 T1S Toyos didn't rub until Konis were installed. The Konis were stiffer. However, if the bumpstops or compressed length is less than the stock setup, you can end up getting *more* rubbing.

I don't have a clue about the Tokicos and other brands re: rubbing. IMO, a slightly beefier aftermarket bumpstop (just a bit longer and stiffer) could come in handy for rub situations...
