Tire Brand and Size

After SEARCHing for hours, I've come to a dead end. What is the most popular tire, and the largest size that will fit our cars (safely) on stock wheels?

I accidentally picked “Stock tires until I die, man!!!” instead of “OTHER” so wipe off one of those votes.

It’s Falken Azenis 225/40-18” rubber for me.

I had the Dunlop SP9000's on my CLS wheels at the time, 225/45/17, I LOVED them...the only thing that bothered me was that is was a Summer tire. The wheels/tires have been sold, I've got on order for my new wheels, 225/50/17, Michelin pilot Sport A/S...It's a rare size....you won't find many in that size, but it's all season, so I'm happy..

225-50 ???
Isn’t that size going to have a HUGE sidewall and affect the cornering performance?

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

225/50/ZR17

BEST all-season tire out there...PERIOD!!!

Shawn, the sidewall is taller, but it makes the stock rims look bigger while making the wheel gap even nicer with springs

The only other way to match my Overall Diameter of my stock 205/60/16 is to do either 245/45/17, or 225/50/17. I had 225/45 Dunlops, I loved them, but I hated the fact that they were summer tires only, so I had the CLS wheels off the car for the winter. In addition, my Speedometer was off by 5 mph. At 80mph, my car was really going 75. In addition, my fuel mileage went to the $hit..I could barely get 200 miles of city driving on a full tank. Observe:

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Difference
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Difference
205/60-16---- 4.8 in--- 12.8 in-- 25.7 in-- 80.7 in-- 785 / mile 0.0%
225/50-17---- 4.4 in--- 12.9 in-- 25.9 in-- 81.2 in-- 780 / mile 0.7%
225/45-17---- 4.0 in--- 12.5 in-- 25.0 in-- 78.5 in-- 808 / mile -2.8%
235/45-17---- 4.2 in--- 12.7 in-- 25.3 in-- 79.6 in-- 796 / mile -1.4%
245/45-17---- 4.3 in--- 12.8 in-- 25.7 in-- 80.7 in-- 785 / mile -0.0%

This is a photoshopped pic of my car with the new wheel's I have on order right now..

pirelli p-zero's are overrated... treadwear sucks and they eat dick in the wet...

the Michelin's fit on stock rims...no issues since they're the 225-series...235 gets a bit fuzzy...the 225's are more than capable of handling any road conditions...in the rain, these tires grip so well, u can ALMOST drive normally...that's how scary it is!! dry weather handling is 2 very big
