Tire blew out today....
So we were driving down one of the main streets in town tonight and I hit this crazy huge pothole directly on the tire and BAM!
I was just like
I hope my rim doesn't get fucked up. I was in the middle lane and trying to pull over was so hard people wouldn't let me over. All while riding completely on rim. Plus my lady is FREAKING the hell out and i'm just like it's fine it's fine lol trying myself not to get upset so she would stop.
The way it blew is really weird and it almost looks as how retreads do when they come off. The entire tread portion of the tire is completely separated from the sidewall on both sides.
If my rim is indeed bent, would my insurance cover it and a new tire? The tire was only 6 months old w/ 8k on it.
I know that
but I'll take them tomorrow morning when it's light outside so even i can see what actually happened.

Your insurance probably will not cover anything. You hit a road hazard, not really an insurance issue. Some people have been successful with going after the city/town/state who is responsible for maintaining the road.
If you bought road hazard protection with the tires, that should cover you for the tire, probably not the rim though.
If you do go after the city for the cost of the repairs, you better go back and get a lot of pics of the pothole (as well as your rim/tire/girlfriend
) to prove it was there and the severity of it.

BTW, thats not really a blow out. A blow out occurs when you blow the sidewall at speed without hitting anything (usually as a result on driving on seriously under inflated tires). Blow outs are some seriously scary shit.

The issue with filing a claim against the DOT or city is they can simply claim they were not aware of the pothole. I don't blame them. It's not like they're just sitting on the highways waiting for a pothole to appear and quick run out and patch it.
If you don't have road hazard warranty, take your lumps, buy a new tire and rim if necessary and move on.

actualy, the city will cover it if u argue it right. its their negligence to maintain the road that our tax dollars pay. They are responsible for the road. That pot hole is a forseen danger to anyone. Could be dangerous to more than one person. Just get lots of pics of the hole and the location, like shops, street names, lights etc. Take to wherever and argue it. THey will most likely pay for ur damages. Just fight it smart.
