Tinting Questions

Hi all. I have a few questions about tinting, if everybody who is knowledgable on the subject could respond, I think this would make a great FAQ in the end.

1. I already know to tell the place that I have it done at not to tint the top portion of the rear window where the dots are.

2. What are the different types of tinting? (i've seen mirrored, lumar, etc. on this this board)

3. What should I expect to pay for all the windows (minus the windshield)?

PS. I'll still do the before/after pics with the etched acura-cl.com stickers. Oh, I got a quote from Ziebart for $129 for 3 windows, plus $20 for each additional window, would our little triangle ones count as a window?

Maybe you'll have better luck, I asked several days ago and no answer. Wish I could pass along what they told me but that was nothing.

I've seen lots of people talking about smoked & mirrored tints, at least throw in your 2 cents about the above questions, even if you're not an expert!

What's the difference between all the types of tints? Do you mean mirror tint the dots, but not if a smoke timnt?

I am interested as well in knowing more about tinting and the different variations that exists. Anybody who are happy with their tints who wouldn't mind sharing their PICS/links would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased my Type-S a couple of weeks ago, and I am glad that there exists this site that caters to our palette of finely-engineered automobiles.

This is my first post, it will not be the last.

I just got my TL tinted last weekend. Charged $120 for the rear and rear doors (small triangles included).

I got the non-metallic because I read from the TL forum that metallic can interfere with the Navi. Otherwise I would have went with the 90% metallic.

I had him tint over the dots in the upper rear. The tint guy told me that sometimes it comes out fine, sometimes it doesn't. If it didn't, he would have cut across right below it and cleaned it off for me. I took a chance and it came out fine.

I think 35 grade is dark enough. Any darker and the cops might pull guns on you if you get pulled over.

I have 35% tint all around... Its pretty dark and looks great, esp. on my black CL-S. I paid 180.00 which is about normal here in Chicago..... The rear window was a bit tough, but he did tint over it and it look all right. There is a color variation as it does look silver, but its not that big of a deal I think, since tinting over the rear defroster lines also give somewhat of a silver lining, so it doesn't look too bad. I thought about doing the metallic, but didn't since I wanted something a bit classy looking. In my opinion, the metallic (on a black car) looks a bit cheesy and ghetto and makes the car look "cheap".... But, that's what I think.

Hope that helps !
