Tinted Windows

I'm thinking about tinting my windows soon and I got a couple questions. I'm wondering if 35% tint would be dark enough since my car is black on black or if I should go 20%. Also, I've heard you can actually get a perscription from an eye doctor for tinted windows. Is this true? and if so, are there any eye doctors in the house?

Check my sig for a link.

I have 35% tint on my 01 CL-s, but there is also pictures of my old TA which was black. I had 5% on it.

I think the perscription thing is for the tinting of the windshield. I had never heard about tinting the entire windshield until I read it on this site, but apparently they do it. None of the tinters I know would do that, and when I was living in Oklahoma, it was illegal.... unless you have a perscription, I guess

My old TL was tinted with 35% sides AND windshield and it was a bit too dark for my liking... My new CL has 30% on the sides and 50% on the winshield which is perfect.

Tint on windows are not good......if you ever get in an accident (small one or large one) insurance will not cover damages if they see the tint...even worse on totalled cars which have to be towed to a lot where you cannot remove anything or do anything to the car until after inspectors come.

You want to explain where your getting this info. Everyone I know who has tint on their cars and has gotten into accidents has never had a problem. When my brother totalled his car, the insurance didn't say anything about the tint, nor did they care.

Everything stated above is totally false. I was in a bad accident in my TL and the tint was never mentioned and I got to remove all the aftermarket stuff that was left.

Where the heck did you get this info? My friend has been in the auto insurance (State Farm) field as an adjuster, inspector, and contract negotiator for nearly 15 years and says tint doesn't do anything to affect your insurance claim.

This state of florida does not allow tinting on vehicles in the front window below the A-1 mark. One of the first 5 items on the insurance/adjuster investigator's list is legal tinting. There were two people in the last 3 years from my car club that had accidents with tinted windows. Not only did they receive tickets for this, their insurance did not cover it and they were dropped from insurance (allstate & metlife auto). Maybe things in florida (regarding tinting may be more strict than New Jersey. I know NJ is strict about a lot of things too. I lived in Scotch Plains for 13 years and always drove to Cherry Hill and Keyport and cops were not the nicest about things. Maybe it's the luck of the insurance adjuster and/or cop. This is just from my friends and my own experience. Take it for what it is worth.

This guy has no idea what he is talking about. For this to be correct the ins would have to prove that the tint caused the accident......and that you were not allowed to have tint on your car.

If it is noted by a cop on the accident report or ticket, that is one of the first things that insurance adjusters look at and determines who is at fault. Florida is a no fault state (until insurance proves who is at fault), and so any ammunition that an insurance company has to prove a driver is at fault, they will use.

You said tint...not just front window tint.

OF COURSE the ins will give you shit if you have illegal window tinting.

Proving that your window is tinted and hader to see out of it is not hard at all to prove that one party is at fault in an accident. I don't know any state that allows tint below the A-1 mark.

yeah, that makes a HUGE difference....nowhere can they get you for tinting other windows...only the front(and only in some states) for example, in AZ, you can have all the windows tinted legally

I think Im gonna go with 20% and nothing on the windshield for now. If I don't like the look of the windshield without tint then i'll do something about it later. I'm gonna be real upset if I start getting pulled over for this, I've heard some bad stories about this sort of thing. But my buddy knows a guy who can stamp the inspection thing for me if i get a fix-it ticket. so we'll see what happens...

Do a search, this topic has been brought up lots of time.

I have 5% rear, 20% sides, and 50% windshield (entire windshield). I ALMOST got pulled over today, but I saw the cop turning around after he passed me, so I quickly pulled into a parking lot and went in a store.

I have a dr's prescription for having to drive with tint for it to be safe, and I have a legit reason. I am light sensitive, which even with sunglasses makes it hard to drive when its sunny out.

I had 35% on my previous car and it wasnt quite dark enough, but if I didnt have a dr's note I probably wouldnt have went with 20%. My gf's car has had 26% on the sides, 5% back window, and 53% windhsield for almost 2 years now and she has never been pulled over for it. She has even been ticketed for speeding, but they said nothing about the tint. Here in Michigan you can have whatever you want on the rear windows, but only the top 4" on the front windows.

It has seemed to me that only State cops really dislike dark tint, and local cops dont care that much.

BTW here's some pics of mine in this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...highlight=tint

I have 15% all around but the windshield...looks dark sometimes....but if you have the sunroof open or a window cracked it's not that bad.

Doesn't look too dark in this pic:

That's exactly what I had on my last car. Nobody can see in, especially the back window, you couldn't even see in the back if you went up and planted your face right on the glass. Loved, but not sure if I'm going to do the CL that dark since it's a silver car, I may not need to.

I have 35% on the sides and back, any darker and it'd be illegal. I was going to go a bit darker but I get my tags ran at least once a week, I dont need to give them anymore of a reason to pay me any mind.
