Tint Help

hey guys, i want to get my windows tinted and i went around to a few shops here in columbia, and they're charging like 180 or so for 3M lifetime warranty tint, anyways the previous dumbass owner of my car put a VERY light tint on my windows and it looks retarded. whoever did it, did a terrible job...all these shops want 60-70 bucks JUST to strip my windows of the tint thats on there now. so i say... F that....any tips on how i can remove that shit myself?

Just get one of the edges loose and peel it off You will need something like goo gone to get all the residue glue off the glass. Oh and be prepared cause it will stink I did this on a car of mine that was tinted for about 3 years and it was a total nightmare, I spent all weekend getting all the glue off

Yep, it works good too. Should come with a little razor blade and a holder too. I'd suggest taking it to a tint shop to remove the tint from the rear window so you don't ruin the rear defrost/radio antenna.

I used to sell tint at a stereo shop....Just have a tint guy remove it. They put plastic on it and soak it in the sun and shit, there's a process to it.

You don't just "rip" tint off.

It may not be the "best" way to do it, but it works. Who's to say you can't rip it off, ive done it several times

There's a proper way to do things, and an improper way to do things. The risk of ripping off the rear defroster is much higher when you remove tint incorrectly.

I could choose to run a power wire to my amp with no fuse, and it would work, but I'm not going to do it because of the possible consequences.

Shit. So I just got pulled over for front tint.. but it's a fix-it. How much should I be expecting to pay for a shop to remove the tint and then put another one back on after inspection?

lol don't be a wuss , I have had 4 tickets for my tint. (35% windshield 15% everything else)

I just pay them and forget about it. I like mine dark, so I think 75 bucks for a ticket here and there is worth it.

It's $220 here. I think it'd be cheaper to replace it.

dont do the rear windshield on your own. my cousin tried taking the tint off himself on his acura and he ended up ripping off the defroster/antenna. It will cost you more money to repair the damage than it would to just get it professionally done.

im lucky i took my car to my brothers friend's shop in totowa,nj and he charged me $30 to tint my rear windshield and my 2 back windows. It would have been $50 for everything

yeah you need to get a black plastic trash bag and spray the whole glass with ammonia make sure you soak it pretty good and then spread the bag over it itll stick like tint with the ammonia. let it sit in the sun for about an hour then start at one corner and with a lot of patience peel away. though im with everyone else id just pay the 60 bucks and let them deal with it. GOOD LUCK

Most tint guys use alcohol. Evaporates quick, does the job, doesn't harm anything.

Most shops charge about $50-$70 to remove tint. When I had mine taken off it was $60. The retint was $200, $260 total.

You do not want to remove tint if you haven't done it before. If you want to learn how it's not hard, you need a car to practice on. After seeing it done right & reading about it I'm sure I could do it with some practice.

please tell me you havent fucked with it yet. you DONT just pull it off, what a mess that creates. get an extension cord and a hot blow dryer, do 1 window at a time. heat up the whole window (from the outside) get it nice and warm then start at one corner and get that bitch hot, i mean like you dont want to accidently touch the glass, then slowly pull it off as you continuously heat up the glass further and further down the window. you wont have one peice of reside left over, no need for razor blades. this is coming from first hand, not something that i just read. this is the definitely the quickest way to get off tint. p.s. do it on a warm day

dont you just love tinted windshields! it really completes the look of the car. i had 35 on windshield, 5 all the way around and 35+5 on the back, that was on a maxima. cl im going to do 5 all the way around and 35 on windshield. only $75 for a ticket! damn thats cheap. i only got one, and what do ya know i was selling the freaking car the next day too. cop wouldnt cut me any slack, its around $150-175 in charlotte nc

when you get your car inspected do they ever fuck up your tint getting off the old sticker? they left scraper marks and slices on mine. i think from now on im going to take off the sticker myself prior to getting the inspection

I say go pay for it to be done if it only cost $50-80. Long time ago when my dad had a tint shop, he always charge alot b/c he didn't want to do it. It is not worth it especially for your health. Anyways, good luck.
