Time for Spark Plugs?

Hello guys, my 2001 CL-S has never had a spark plug change. It has 87K miles on, not that much, I know those plugs work fine for over 100K miles. My engine is not mis firing, no codes, starts right away, power is ok... does not seem to need new plugs. But they have been firing the same engine, on the same place for over 7 years... is it advisable to change them now? It worries me that they might be getting old and even though engine is running fine, probabbly new plugs will make it run better? Any opinion welcome. All the best, Roger

For plugs, I think mileage is a bigger factor then time. I have 102k on my original plugs on my 01 CL-S still. If your worried, just go ahead and pull out one of the spark plugs.

Thanks for the advise, will remove one and check for wear, corrosion, carbon formation, gap, any kind of build up, color... there is only so much the eye can tell... I posted this thread to make sure nobody reccommended "yes, your plugs are way to old, replace right away" or maybe getting something like "I changed plugs before 100K miles and noticed huge difference in performance..." Thanks again friends!

No need to if they are working fine. If you start to mess with things you may break something. Like a coil, or bolt, or even have a plug break off in the block. That has happened to me before on other cars.

If you don't care about optimum performance and it seems to be running fine, then milk them a bit more. That said, I don't just look at the amount of miles plugs have on them. You need to consider the age and operating conditions as well. This is much like changing the oil or air filter. If the cars been driven hard and or in hot or dusty/polluted environments then it's recommended that you change the oil and or air fliter sooner. So if you are doing a lot of city driving and don't really get on it . . the plugs may be a little dirtier than normal. If you are a 'speed racer' and like to get the most out of your car then change them. The fact is with the plugs being about 9yrs old there will be a benefit to both gas mileage and performance.

BTW - I change mine every 5yrs or so . . . miles don't apply to me as I drive mine hard.
