Thump at cold start
I know this has been discussed before. I'm referring to the "thump" noise that you hear at the instance the engine turns over when you crank the key. I asked my service manager who said it was normal. So I went away satisfied until now when I hear that there is a TSB for a similar problem with Accords. So what's the consensus? Is this normal or not?

I actually have the same thing occur when I turn it on in the mornings. I actually was wondering about it, and almost called my dealer, but I believe it is normal.
Another thing that is annoying me. I get a loud buzzing sound when I start driving. I know it's the ABS test, but it is pretty loud. Do any of you have this problem?

Loud buzzing sound IS normal. It's the ABS as you said. In fact, sometimes it'll happen twice.

I bitched about abs stuff. It is too damn loud in my opinion. my other two cars dont do this shit and they ahve abs too.
I dont have the thump, but I guess it is normal.
but generally speaking a fantastic car.

The "thump" has been deemed to be normal. It is caused by the vacuum controlled engine mounts. The "buzz" at startup is also normal and is simply an indication that the ABS system is doing a selftest to make sure all is well in the eventuality that it has to go to work in earnest.Jens

My girlfriend's father has a CL-S like me, yet the buzz noise my car makes is quite a bit louder than his. Not a big deal, but it amazes me that it can be so different between the same car.

Someone over on the Accord discussion board on Edmunds also said that the problem is the vacuum actuated engine mount. But since there is actually a TSB from Honda on it, is it a problem that needs to be fixed, or is it just one of those little annoyances that would not cause any damage even if ignored?

Wow... What a co-ink-a-dink. I have the "thunk" too. In any case, I just received my service manual, and while looking through it I thought to myself, "maybe that thunk is caused by these adjustable motor mounts."
It's kinda neat to know my hypothesis was right. I guess if you put a monkey behind a keyboard, sooner or later he punches out a word.
Oh, and always, thanks Jens, for keeping us informed!!

Unfortuanately I have no idea why they seem to thump at times and other times they are silent.Acura has never said anything other than the fact that "it is normal".Since they are vacuum controlled and are adjusted according to engine speed it may be that it only does it when the engine start from a cold start as opposed to warm or hot restart.Since engine idle speed changes as the car warms up perhaps this is somehow affecting it.Whatever it is it is deemed normal by the powers that be so we never really looked into it.Cus daddy welcome to Danbury I've been stuck here for more than 16 years the place sort of grows on you.Jens
