Thoughts of a mid 30 year old with a hot car.
Thoughts of a mid 30 year old with a hot car.
Alright,
Why is it that there has for the last 4,5 years been lots of flaming on guys in their mid-thirties to late forties driving hot sports cars??
Examples:
40 year old, with a convertable porsche..maybe a little baldness??..automatically people think he is insecure about his age, and his hair or whatever...
WTF???
I wanna drive fucking hot cars like that at that age!! But I dont wanna get flamed or imaged as a guy who is trying to buy his youth or sexual life with his car. With my master plan, i wont be pulling out the bentley's till i'm late 40, or early fifties.
Why are people thinking like this? And how can we stop this way of thinking?
I admit there are many 35-50 year olds driving hot sport cars cause of sexual reasons, and those people probably dont know shit about cars, and dont have passion for them. What about people like us?..that have passion for cars and stuff..how do we get away with driving hot cars in our late 30's and not imaged as older scum trying to impress 20 year old girls?
anyone else think about this?

Back to the original topic. I'm turning 39 tomorrow.... All I can say is I sure as hell didn't buy the car to satisfy some young chick. I got it because it's a fantastic value, with a sh!tload of HP! I can see your point, but for me it's all about value/comfort/reliability/power. I really don't care what others think, as long as I'm happy!

I don't know anybody who looks at "older" guys in sports cars and considers them a joke.
The young guys are the ones who are in the "minority". Historically the sports cars are the reward for hard work. It was rare you saw a "kid" in one. It was always the 35-50 year old demigraphic. The wife had the station wagon/minivan/sedan. And the guy had the sports car. A small percentage are "mid-life crisis" guys. Most of the 35-50 YO's you see in these cars always wanted them. It's only now, at this juncture in their life, that they could afford them.

How can you "admit" there is a group of people driving hot cars for sexual reasons? You're using a Hollywood stereotype as your reasoning here.
And as far as 35-50 not knowing shit about cars, and not having a passion for them.
WHO DO YOU THINK IS ENGINEERING AND DESIGNING THEM? Not 18-30 year olds.
The passion, creativity and "love" for the segment of the market so many here covet. Comes from the age group you tend to look down on as, old and outdated. You punks wouldn't have shit to drive if it wasn't for the 35-50 year old male.

Between Squishy & Rock Dog, the answer is given. Driving a nice (performance) car is a sensual pleasure, not unlike good food and good sex. And nice cars are not accidents. At the very least, the design projects are managed by older farts (read experienced).
Age xenophobia is an affliction of youth. When I see another mid fifties gentleman driving a nice car, high performance or not, I think "Lucky Dude." He may not be able to get it up or is certifiably neurotic, but still "Lucky Dude!"
There's my humble $0.02.

I actually look at a lot of young guys who drive REALLY NICE CARs..as spoiled on trust funds. You can usually tell when the kid owns his own business and probably earns his money. Yeah...I'm a little jealous.
Moomaster you have a 3 line comment and a 30 line signature...C'mon - we really don't care to have to download 30 lines on everyone of your posts. It is pretty annoying.
Subject - I agree, GTO is getting old!

Right on, bros!!! I concur completely. I drove a Datsun 260Z in my late 20's and early 30's (when I was single), and only now, that I am 50+ (and single again), can I afford to drive an Acura Coupe, which, BTW, is a sports GT, not a sports car.
As I've always said, "If you can remember the 60's, then you probably weren't there, man!"

As far as the youngsters whose mommies and daddies buy them their CL's and CL-S's, I kinda agree with you. As for the kidz who actually earn their buckz, more power to 'em!
BTW, Your sig looks mo' beddah to me. Thanks for the re-do, bro. (I've trimmed mine down a bit, too.)
