Thinking outside the box here...
i had this really wack idea about people's problems with the connections on their CAI's. my dad and i used Vasoline to reduce friction between the 2 O-rings on either half of the intake to make sure the intake was securely fit (but since Vasoline will burn a hole in the rings, i will b replacing it with silicon sealant tomorrow), so i got thinking, what can happen to the rubber during hot and cold seasons?? it can expand and contract, right? so what if i took one O-ring and put it in the fridge for a few hours, and then tried to connect the 2 halves back together?? isn't there a chance that i can reduce the friction just enough that i can connect the 2 halves securely without using a lubricant???
and while we're on the weather subject, lemme ask u this: let's assume that i'm right, and the rubber O-rings do expand and contract slightly depending on the weather - would it be wise to make sure the clamps are securely fit during the winter when the rubber is at its most contracted state (for fear that the clamp may not b tight enough) and to loosen and re-tighten the clamp during the summer when the rubber is at its most expanded state (for fear of cracking something b/c the clamp is too tight)??
i'm just trying to make sure i take propper care of the CAI, not just forget about it once it's installed. tell me what u think bout the fridge idea!!
