Thinking of a new project car

okay this is a car forum more specifically a CL board, but i need input on something that is car related but not cl related so please no flames i am sure many are thinking the same thing.....

anyhow...seeing how there is no good aftermarket support for our car and there won;t be until everyone sees a 11 second CL-S..i have decided to go for a project car that i can work on and use as my speedster at the track and use my CL and put a heavy loud system and use it as my chick moblie..

So i was thinking about getting a mazda MX-6 for 1400 and then mod the hell out of that..
or maybe a rx-7 if i can find one in the 4000-6000 range

On a side note....you all remember ZOOMZOOM or ZOOMZOOMZOOM...forgot if it is two zooms or three....anyhow i ound him..it seems he owns a rx-7 and not those other 3 cars he said

Tell me what you guys think about this plan and if you know any other good light cars that could be used to mod up other then the civics and accords...take it easy

later,
dantes

I told you my opinion on this matter.

If you want a real rocket, consider getting a 88-89 rx-7 (the old body) and drop a chevy 350 enginge in there. I saw some guy who did that at Sears Raceway last year and he was hitting low 12's. Its cheap and effective.

my choice would have to be a92-95 civic hatch cx..

you can pick one up for 1500-3000

if u get that u can then get a type-r motor (b16b or b18c1) for about 3000 installed...

this combo will get u high 12's low 13's with street tires....

so for at most 6k u can run 12's and its more reliable than both of the the other cars that u mentioned.....

i know im gonna get the rice lecture but id make it a sleeper!!!!! keep them 13's on it!!

How did you find out about ZOOM ZOOM?
BTW i'm a huge fan of Supras, so I say go with a 93-95 one, huge head turner and fast as hell with little money. Or try an old Lex Sc300 and turbo that. Are you into import or domestic. Theres an old chevy vega for sale around here with a V8 gutted huge rear tires. This thing lifts it front on the street!!!!!!!

95 M3!!!!

i found a post of zoomzoom but maybe i might be wrong had like 1549 posts and no sig....but then again maybe it is right saw the smiley face he had on here so who knows....

I am thinking more import...just have hte urge to beat up on the mustangs pigions and camaros...they are all over here, muscle car glore and a f-body graveyard when i get done with this next ride

as forthe supra, could i find a 92-95 for 3,000 dollars to 6,000???? I would love a supra if i could find one

I actully found a rx-7 red (sort of) theft recovered, missing the interior..body is damaged but alittle fix up should work and might paint black or silver....all for 5900...another one is repossed and they are selling it for 4500

Why limit yourself to imports? For the investment required to make an import run in the 12's, a domestic V8 can be coaxed deep into the 10's....and still be street driven.

Consider these domestic performance bargains:

85-93 Ford Mustang 5.0 LX or GT
87-92 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
84-87 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

If you want some future return for your investment, consider something classic. These cars can be purchased at a reasonable price:

68-72 Chevrolet Chevelle
67-69 Chevrolet Camaro
67-69 Pontiac Firebird

I'm not here to convince you what to believe, or not to believe. Eagle ESP 3D H-beam forged steel connecting rods are vary in price by retailer. Summit and Jegs list them for $570. Jim Butler Performance sells them for $499. I got them from Go Fast Parts for $389 including shipping.

Here is the rod in question:
<img src=http://images.andale.com/f2/126/125/6051729/997224155493_rod1.jpg>

Here is the crank - $649, Eagle steel by JBP, 3.25" main journals, 2.20" rod journals, 4.25" stroke = 473 cubic inches (it's the one in the front)

Venolia custom pistons = $650/set, 4.19" bore, .990" floating pins, .050" dome (13.5:1 compression), nitrous alloy

I'm still digging through floppies and super disks, but here is the engine on the dyno.

I have several more pictures of the car and engine, but I need to reduce the resolution or those on dial-up connections will hate me

I'm not the biggest fan of these cars but they r fast. 1980's toyota corolla & the mazda starlet. If your at import races & hear a real loud rat-ta-ta-ta thats one of them. Both rear wheel drive & weight about 1500lbs at the max. Swap the stock engine & trans out for a 13b (mazda rotary(RX-7)race port, and or turbo and nitrous. 20000rpm vroom, vroom, vroom

the project car I want to build one day is a Mini Cooper with a honda b16a engine (civic si engine) Small and light but I think traction will be a problem. I just don't see how 10" tires can have good grip.
