thinking of installing dvd/mp3 player

Im thinking of adding the apex md-100 system in the rear lock console. I check it out today and its 250 at bestbuy. and it'll fit in the storage thing in the back seat.

the good thing is It can play mp3/dvd/cd so if I when I do the dvd decoder install i'll be all set. and best thing of all it hides and I can even keep the compartment locked.

I bought an APEX dvd/mp3 player about a year ago thinking it would be cool to be able to play my mp3s through my home stereo, and as it turned out, that APEX pos would only recognize tracks with the old 8 chararacter DOS naming convention. So I would put a cd burned with 300 songs and only the 5 with names under 8 characters would be recognized.

I called APEX's tech support and the told me that was how it was designed to work. So intead of renaming my entire mp3 collection I returned the pos.

Maybe the newer ones don't do this anymore, but it's something to look into.

That player sounds cool, especially if you can lock it away. But I would look into mcdanjw's problem with it.

i'd just get a ps2. you get to play video games and watch dvd's. as for the mp3, get a portable one. that way you can take it anywhere.

I have the Apex 600a (the original dvd unit) and it rocks! I don't know what mcdanjw is talking about because it recognizes every mp3 file on any cd/cdr/cdrw and even supports directorys but it just TRUNCATES the names to 8 characters so its a little hard to figure out what song you are playing based on the display on the tv esp on songs with really long file names. BUT IT WILL PLAY EVERY SONG even has shuffle funtions so you can pop in a cd with 700 megs of songs and get a good 10 hours of music.

Only think I would make sure to do is get the circuit city extended warranty because I have heard about problems with the systems failing (even tho mine has worked great for over a year) and also don't think you can still defeat the MACROVISON or region encoding, because I think they took that funtion out of the current firmware versions, although some models might have a hack.

Joe, if you wanna place it in the rear console, I urge you to check the dimension again. I looked at it a while back and there is noway it's gonna be fitted in the rear console unless you wanna do some customized work. It's very long also. Check again before you buy it.
