Thinking of coming back to the CL community!

Whats up guys, being one of the OG members from 2000, I had a 2001 CLS which I loved..but after the tranny went and after the 350z came out.. I dumped the CL and picked up an '03 Z and then an '01 civic as my beater. Well, I hate the civic and miss the CL... thinking of picking up an '03 CLS and coming back home. I've seen some nice CLP's, and dont really need the power since I have the 350z, but wondering where the best place to get 2003 CL-S wheels are? Didnt see really any threads in the classifieds either....

They are becoming increasingly hard to find. Check salvaged and wrecked CL-S. I've found a lot searching under google

Actually, just drove my sister's 04 Honda Pilot. It has the old school Navi that is on the Acura CL's..... Kinda didn't like it. Screen was very tiny and just seemed outdated. When I had my '01 CLS it was the bomb, but nothing compared to the navi on my Z (which of course is now outdated, but not as bad as honda/acura's from '01). I think I may consider getting a CL without navi now. Hmmmmm... maybe even a CLP, better gas milage? I think If I slap the 17" CLS wheels on them it will look just as good. Hate those 16" stockers.

How much are you looking to spend? I might be throwing mine up for sale soon. 03 SSM Auto w/ mods if you wanted them. About a half hour from you too.

Synth, check out autotrader.com, cars.com, etc..

The 03's are really starting to hit the used market in numbers now since alot of the original 39 month leases are up...

"has to be auto. My Z is manual, and I need at least one auto car."

I would read some of the transmission problem posts before deciding on a CL automatic!

Good to hear from one of the original members!

He's well aware of the auto issues.. He had an 01...

Since he's looking for an auto 03, he should be ok with tranny replacements till around 2009 or 100K miles (which ever comes first)... The 03's were available in early 02, so the 7 years from the in service date starts to expire in 2009...

Synth, I know you mentioned getting a low mileage auto CL, but low mileage isn't going to buy you more time on the tranny... it's 7 yrs or 100K miles... So even if you got a 03 CL with 20K miles on it, that was sold in April 02, you'd only have 2 1/2 years of tranny warranty left (and NOT 80k miles left).

Actually, do you guys even recommend I get an '03 CL? I Loved the ride, but I am leary of the tranny issue... I know it could be hit or miss, but I miss the CL enough to take the chance. But perhaps that is being stupid. Actually, how much do these tranny go in case I have to pay out of pocket? That may make me change my mind really quick! I'm looking to pay 14-16k. All depends how much I can sell my mint '01 civic coupe for (only 49k miles). After selling the civic, I dont want to spend more then 5-7k on a car.

I feel I have contributed on a few threads on this forum today to ask a stupid question (which I can't seem to find because of the search limitations), any difference from the 2003 CLP and CLS with the tranny? I would assume that with less torque on the CLP, equates to less stress on the tranny?

im sure you're right on the stress factor however my 98 accord got a free tranny 6 mos ago albeit only had 46K miles it was way out of warranty...get a certified CL and you wont have to worry about the tranny out of pocket for 10/100K

I would think that there'd be less stress on it too, but even some CLP owners have had issues... CL'er 1st & 2nd Gen's is an older guy with a CLP who has had his tranny replaced.

mclarenf3387 is the resident CLP expert, so he might be able to offer an opinion on CLP tranny issues (or lack thereof). PM him, if he doesn't post here...

:killer: Thanks Greenie.

After having the '01CL tranny problem, I don't know why synth would even look at an '03 CL unless it was a 6spd. If it has to be an auto, I would look at something else. Maybe a used G35?

I have hope. G35 is out of the question... out of my budget. I don't want to spend more then 16k for a used car.
