Thinking about 2001 CL type S
Hey guys, I'm usually in the first generation Cl's but since mine just caught fire and blew up last week. I was thinking about buying a 2001 cl type S for about 20k$ canadian, which is about 17k$ us.
I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if these cars have any types of problems that I should know about or even if there's been any recalls. I want your opinions guys since everyone in the forum has always been so helpful in modding my 97CL 3.0
I thought maybe I would be better to ask people who actually own the car for their advice.
Any info would be helpful and if anyone wants I can post the pics of my burnt cl 3.0
(A tear rolls down my cheek.....)
LAter..

if you're looking, make sure it has low miles, cause honda extended the tranny warranty to 7yrs/100,000 miles
car blew up huh, how'd it happen? any pics?

Here's the interior
Here's the exterior
The fire was caused by a DVD player that I got installed. The pioneer...can't remember the model.

No, no one got hurt, but when my car blew up, my friends Audi A4 also got hit by the blast and totaled his ride and then the car almost put his house on fire. Bad week, let me tell you. But the insurance should pay up.....hopefully.

OMFG! I wouldn't make my insurance pay for that.. I'd make Pioneer or the installer pay for that. Same thing happened to a friend of mine a few years back. While working as a pizza delivery driver, he goes out to his Eclipse to make a delivery and, oops! Car's on fire, right there in the parking lot! It was the installers fault that installed the Alpine or Eclipse CD player (can't remember which one). To make a long story short, Best Buy had to pay for it. That sucks man, sorry to hear about your loss.
As for buying a second gen, I say go for it. As I stated in a recent post, not all 01-03 CL's have bad trannys. They are great cars. I love mine. BTW, mine is '01 CL-S w/AT, 50K. First tranny, no problems.

I'm not sure if the price is too high. Maybe I will shop around before plunging into a purchase, but I've looked around and it's definately going to be another CL.

There's been a few 6spds forsale in the black market here for under $20K...
It's well worth the extra money to get a 6spd.
Heck, this 6spd with 79K miles was advertised for $15K...

Don't know what the final selling price was.

$17k US is definately high for a stock 01. There is a SuperCharged one in the black market for $16k with all the aftermarket stuff being sold by SeattleCls in the black market.
For an 01, look under $15k. A few guys have gotten 03 6speed/navi's for <$19k a few months back

Sorry to hear about your car.
At least you are OK.
BTW, I have a beatiful 2001 CL type S for sale.
Check it out:

It's got lots of extras, but I don't mind putting back all the factory stuff and selling it to you for about 17K
It has 60K miles, and it has been babied since I bought it. I just put in $600.00 on the 60 service including brake pads all the way around. I am also putting new tires on this weekend (they'll run about $800.00)
As is I will sell it for about 20-21K (yes I will lose money on it).
It's got headers, polished exhaust, DVD converter, A/C D/C converter. Racing Hart 18" C4 rims. Eibach springs, etc.
