temperature conversion and foglights questions

Hi, Long time reader first time poster

I bought my cousins 01 US CLP and imported it to Canada. Since we use metric here I have no time to sit in my car to calculate the outside temperature into celcius. Is there any secret button combination you can press on the dash to set the temperature displays for outside temperature and cabin temperature from fahrenheit to celcius? Also I noticed that my CLP does not have a fog light "on
" switch. It has the foglights infront with the bulbs etc. However there is no fricken way of turning them on Whats up with that? I was thinking of rewiring the newly installed daytime running lights to turn on the foglights instead of the headlights. Anyone tried that?

Thanks for your time, Cheers

Sorry, but there's no secret button combination. If your foglights aren't on, then the bulbs are blown. So you'll need to replace the bulbs.

The road lamps are not fogs. They only use 5W bulbs. More like marker lights. They come on with your regular lights. No switch.

What he said.

Also, those are called road lamps. They will never be as bright as a fog lamp.

I just reach my arm under the car on each side of the road lamps and feel around until I feel like the back of the road lamp housing (slants into the center into a nipple like area), the plug for the bulb is in that area which is easy to feel, then you grip it and twist it slightly counter clock wise (I think) and remove it. Pull the old bulb out of the plug, place new bulbs in and reverse your steps.

A picture of the back of my extra set of road lamps, so you can an idea what your looking for. The whole process shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes.

There is a screw that you can access through the grill. Unscrew it and the road lamp will pop out.

If you are getting new bulbs, I'd suggest getting PIAA 19224 or Polarg M6.

Here's a thought about the temperature question...
If you buy a gauge cluster for a Canadian model, it may be the fix you need, but I am not sure if it is something from the ECU that calculates the reading from the sensor... At least your KMH will be the larger numbers also.

Sorry I can't elaborate more on whether that will fix it, I just don't really know.

thanks for all the input guys. I greatly appreciate it. I tried to reach,as TCM 01 CL-S suggested, today under when I got home, however there seems to be some kind of plastic plate covering it preventing me from accessing the bulb/socket. Then I tried reaching in from the side of the grill but my wrist is tooo fat. Oh well I guess a pair of screwdrivers will come in handy to take them out.

As for the gauge clusters, I am not "THAT" concerned about the temperature not being displayed in celcius. To me I just have no clue, for example, what 41 degrees F means. I have no reference besides 32 is zero and 98 is body temp. Let me elborate. 41 degrees F to me means that its cold... since its above 32 but HOW COLD? That i dont know. I guess its a metric upbringing type of thing. I will try to replace the bulbs and see how it goes. I feel so stupid haha I have been looking for dumb switch to turn them on since I got the car. Now all along they were just burnt out

Take off the splash guards first, they are held in by 3 clips. Should be easy from there..

I agree, loosen the splash guard (black plastic right under the lights and bumper) and then you will have full access to the back of the lights.

As for 41 degrees being cold... It is unless you are coming out of the winter and it's not -4 degrees anymore. I just registered my motorcycle and I'm going for a ride and it's only 47 degrees. That seems nice right about now!!!

Farenhiet to Celcius

Hi guys. I'm also a long time reader - first time posting.

darketernal - an easy rule when converting: subtract 30 then divide by 2.

So if your temp says 80F - in Canada it would be 25C.

Hope that helps!

hey thanks. that approximation is pretty good. it is alot easier than:

Tc = (5/9)*(Tf-32) haha that takes a bit of time to calculate in my head:P
