Technical Question for your gurus
Although this is a duplicate thread, I was hoping for more responses in the 2nd Gen forums. Sorry for the duplication.
I'm planning on removing my power steering this weekend, but still uncertain on how I want to approach it. I was looking at the input/output lines where it connects to the rack, and it seems like it'll be more than a pain in the ass to get to where I need to get to. On top of that, even if I could loop it from where I wanted to, it seems the lines would be pinched due to spacing. I was considering cutting the power steering hose that connects to the pump and attaching it with a fitting and hose directly to the reservoir. Also thought the reservoir will now act as a breather. You think that should do the job? The purpose of the breather is to allow air and fluid to move through the rack with less resistance at low speeds which would help out a lot at the tracks. So the main question is, will the reservoir act as a breather now, or should I "T" off the hose into a seperate breather???
Let me know any inputs you have

As of now my car is just bare metal with more weight reduction to come. Again, it's not a street car, nor will it ever be. It will be trailored to and from the tracks.

I've stripped the following:
A/C
A/C Condensor
A/C lines
A/C Evaporator
A/C vents
Heater core
Driver side airbag
Passenger side airbag
Passenger side seat
SRS Unit and wiring
Back seats
Moonroof
Panel from the ceiling
Door panels
Rear panels
Rear speakers
Jack
Spare tire
Carpet
Sound dampening material
Insulation from firewall
Center arm rest
Unnecessary wiring from Moonroof/Speakers/Rear defroster
Other misc stuff
Anything I don't need, I'm stripping. You'd be surprised by how much all this crap really weighed.
Soon to remove or replace by:
Tar, located on the floor from front to back (est. weight 117lbs from what I've read)
Windows replace by Plexi
Fenders (either custom made CF, or aluminum)
Hood replaced by CF
Trunk replaced by CF (custom)
Console to be replaced by Aluminum with just the necessary gauges
There are 3 ways to remove PS. Steps 2 and 3 have more than one way of doing it.
Step 1: Remove belt
Step 2: Remove belt and loop the system
Step 3: Remove belt, loop the system, and add a breather (track cars use this set up, again to help with lower speed turning)

I removed the PS on my Accord. All I did was pull out the belt, pump, bracket, and reservoir. Noticeable difference in engine response. However it is difficult to drive at very low speed and I suspect may be very tiring on the track. My Accord 'only' weighs 2925lbs. stock too.
