Techedge Wideband O2 Sensor

I had purchased the Techedge Wideband O2 Sensor kit from TechEdge (in Australia). The kit cost the following (AU$):

Main Unit: $199 w/ cable
Harness: $9
Display: $70

Total: $278 = $213 US$

You have to buy a Bosch 7057 O2 sensor for $30 as well (it's an OEM VW part!).

Now... this requires complete assembly (soldering, wiring etc.). I got everything done, but had some problems. I didn't have time to debug, so I sent it into TechEdge and they charged me ~$30 to fix: One of the regulators were bad and some 'cold' solder joints (geeez - should have used more flux!).

Anyways - so for a total of about $243 (US$), you can have a complete WideBand O2 unit with display. I think this is the best deal out there and anybody interested in ANY sort of tuning for their car needs this mod. Even with the extra $30, I think its a very good deal!

TechEdge customer service is very good and they have a Yahoo! Group which is very useful as well.

I have verified the unit is working but haven't installed it - will do shortly and put some pics.

I have also asked TechEdge for a graph of the linear wideband output... could possibly rig something up to mate with an Autometer guage (looks nicer!).

allmotor_2000...where do you mount one of these for most acurate readings?

The sensor should be about 36 inches from the exhaust ports on a non-turbo application. And about the same distance from the turbine outlet on a turbo vehicle.

this allows you to accuratly read your A/F ratio even when not at WOT???

In layman's terms:

On a S/C or NA car: Mount it pretty much where the stock one goes.

On a Turbo car: Mount it 6" on the downpipe after the turbine outlet

hmmmm...my cat is attached to my turbo. I'd say my first 02 sensor is about 6" from the turbo. The second 02 is about 10 inches farther down. They are both on the cat, one on each end (i.e. pre and post cat).

You might be better off to use the factory location for your first sensr. You can then use the simulated narrow band output to feed to your ECU. This will replicate what the stock sensor would put out.

So if I had, say, a Comptech FPR... would I need a wideband O2 to tune it properly? Or can I just guess.

If you have forced induction, it would help. But on an NA car the FPR is worthless.

That would be a great option! Keep us posted.

cool, didn't know about the simulated narrow band...fodo for thought. This is pretty cool because there are a few tuners n the verge of releasing different types of OB2 type software that will let us alter the timing/fuel/boost tables on our current ECU software. Having the wideband 02 would be great.

yeah I wish I did this all along. I still might throw the test pipe in there and free things up a little more.

you should take a look at aem's new wide band uego controller. It comes w/the bosch sensor and a 52mm gauge.

Cable assemblies are one thing. But when it comes to board level assembly and especially when it is on my bill I'm am bit more controlling of the construction.

I did and almost bought it. But the WBO2 unit from TechEdge costs less and has better features. There are three TC inputs, two analog inputs and an RPM input. With that and the software you can log and trend data such as A/F ratio versus RPM versus Boost, etc. Not to mention the Bosch sensor used is readily available and has a great price.
