A sweet hardcore car
A sweet hardcore car
The Elise is a hard-core driver's car—as close to a race car as you can buy for the street—but still a car you can drive and enjoy every day.

IBTM to cartalk.
I like it 'cause it seems to fill a void that's out there. There aren't that many lightweight sportscars around.
I think once it hits the the states, it'll be about 1900-2000 lbs w/ 190 hp. Might not sound like much hp, but that's not alot of weight to push around.
Sportscars in general have become bloated with driver "comforts" like power everything, etc. etc. The elise reminds me of the early 911's (pre-1974). The longhooded 911s weighed about 2100-2300lbs w/ 190hp in S trim.
It will be interesting to see what these sell for in the US and even more interesting to see what they are going to sell for on the used car market once they get a few years old.
It would definetely make for a nice sunday driver/track car (roadcourse).

Except I think you meant heart attack
Seriously though... you wouldn't need more then 250whp in that thing to make it a complete beast.....
They had one of these racing @ raceway park in Englishtown NJ for the Honda Acura day, the anouncer said that this car was V-TECH powered and the article says its powered by Toyota???

the one that goes on sale in june has the celica engine.
people put integra engines on older ones.
I wish you could buy it with no engine and spend that money on an old nsx engine and drop it in there

key word TRYING to keep up....
Yeah the one at englishtown had a GS-R engine in it .. someone said that there was a company importing them with GSR engines. The mod potential of the GSR motor is endless .. could you imagine a turbo gsr motor in that thing?

I thought the elise was faster. Its great around the turns, but it got killed on straight aways

I went to the red-motorsport.de website, unfortunately can't read German, but suspect this was the car because of the credits at the end of the video and the red stripes on the vette.
This Lotus actually DID catch the vette, then it seemed that something either happened to the Lotus or he backed off (when the vette disappeared). Maybe the vette was just playing around til the end? Who knows? The Lotus definitely had a braking advantage and probably a cornering advantage but was obviously not as fast on the straights.
Automobile magazine just tested the stock 05 Elise at Barber Motorsports Park (right here in Alabama - a beautiful facility!) against several other "track cars". The C5 was not one of them, unfortunately, but since the Elise was 1mph faster than an Evo RS, only 1mph slower around the track than a Viper SRT-10, and 2mph slower than a Porsche GT3, I suspect it would hold it's own with a Z06. A race prepped Elise should most certainly outrun a stock Z06 on most if not all road courses!
