Sways ??

Thinking about sways for my car. How big are stock sways? How big are aftermarket - comptech/eibach?

Local shop told me just to do the rear as the front stock is 28mm and there is no need for upgrade. Is this true?

Thanks,
David

Sorry I don't know the answers to your question, but I say get it!! The handling is like night and day when you put it on. I;m sure it will be a very nice setup with the springs.

I just want to make sure I am getting the right parts - that is the best part about being on the list - instant product reviews.

stock sways: 27.2 front/19 back (18 back for NON Type S)

u can just put in the rear sway bar from CT, but if u buy the set, y not just install both...the front CT sway is 27, so it's not all that much different...back CT is 22

Sounds like the front CT sway is no big deal, but the back is worth it. Can I buy just the back? The local guy also mentioned the Eibach sway...

good thread...

on acp.com, they have a neuspeed race only sway(just rear). It's 25mm and states you need to reinforce the frame.

anyone install this? and how do you reinforce the frame?

To my knowledge, the Stock and Comptech front sway are almost idential in diameter. The difference comes from the fact that both bars are hollow, but the Comptech has less hollow space than the stock therefore making it more rigid.

I'm NO gear head, can barely put a nail in the wall.....however, don't second guess the bars ! The CT sways are THE BEST MOD you can do. NIGHT AND DAY ! The negative is you'll need to GET RID OF THE PIG FACTORY TIRES ! THEY SQUEAL LIKE A PIGS...... !!!

GOOD LUCK !

P.S. Your dealership service guys is a complete MORON !

Please excuse my lack of suspension knowledge.
Any downside at all to the stiffer, larger sways ?

NOT really ! It really address' the understeer and oversteer of this HEAVY car ! Tires SUCK big time. Don't you hear them squeal if you do some quick turns ? As I said, I'm no gear head, I don't hang at the race track, but I do have fun from time to time. SWAYS are a MUST ! I'm still not sold on the headers and certainly have NO interest in springs which do alter the ride.
Get the Sways and some good tires, I got S03's and you'll say to yourself......"Why didn't this car come this way from the factory" ???????

If you are going to go for Neuspeed I strongly suggest to get both front and back. Matching the rear sway with the stock front will drastically improve understeer, but will most likely kick your rear end out too much. I have both.

The front Neuspeed bar is also 27mm...but let me tell you, it weighs twice as much. Both bars are completely solid, and combined, offers the most agressive sway bar setup. I offer rides to members in local meets strictly because I believe action are louder than words, but I honestly believe that the Neuspeed RACE bars (front and back) are the best bars for our cars bar NONE.

Unfortunately rumor has it that they no longer sell the Neuspeed race to the general public. As for stonger brackets...mind you...all bars were specifically made for the Accord. A CLS/TLS going from 19mm to a 25mm is not as bad as an 98+ accord 4cylinder sedan going from 15mm to 25mm (2003 models are now 13mm). Mind you, the Neuspeed race bars come with beefier brackets and bolts, whereas the Comptech only ships you replacement bushings. I have had my Neuspeed bars for over a year now and has lasted through all the abuse...even after 2 accidents with one involving major suspension damage and the only 2 parts to come out alive were both my Neuspeed race bars and the strut mounted tie bar (oh the OEM springs too).

The only bars I would ever consider to put on my ride is Neuspeed (F:S27/R:S25), Eibach (F:?27/R:S23), and Comptech(F:H27/R:H22), with Comptech being the last choice. But like I said before...Neither the Neuspeed or Eibach are available and the only choice for the moment is Comptech. Sways are probably the best mod you can buy, but you've chosen the wrong time to buy them.

P.S.
I'm not knocking Comptech...they are still good bars (or I wouldnt even consider it)...but there is no point asking "which bars should I get" because you don't really have a choice in the matter. (Except for suspention Techniques...which shouldn't even be an option because they are basically identical to our OEM ones. The market share for Suspention Techniques is for Accords who do not wish for an overly agressive setup)

The wall thickness on the stock front sway bar is 4.5mm and with an overall diameter of 27.2mm, that leaves 18.2mm of nothing but air in the center. Those solid Neuspeed bars probably make a huge difference compared to stock.

Is the ride significantly harsher with those bars?

Obviously you cant satisfy everyone, but for those seeking the ultimate mod in reducing body roll, then these bars are it. The only side effect is when I go up speed bumps and 1 tire goes up and the other side does not. It shakes the car more violently then if you had NO sways to begin with since you semi-remove the independant suspention. If streets were made of glass then you wouldn't even need suspention, but from a practical standpoint...I'm happy with this setup. Honestly, you wouldnt even know they are there until you make your first right turn on a red light.

Change the front as well. The OEM bar is hollow 28 mm, the Comptech one is solid. It makes a world of difference.

Ok, what's the problem? As far as I knew, the Comptech bar was solid. Isn't it?

Nope. Comptech has yet to publish exact measurements...perhaps maybe they are too similar to stocks for them to do so ...but at least they'll admit that they are NOT solid.

P.S.
We are talking about the front ones only.

how much do the sway bars cost (comptech)? Also, if I get them, will the dealership give me any shit when I am getting something fixed (in other words, what are the possible downsides of having the sway bars? faster tire wear? suspension damage? etc).

Sorry if my questions are...ignorant...but thats what questions are for =D

Downside?
Rougher ride on uneven surfaces
Read the thread...do a search...if you plan of going off road then sways and lowering springs are not for you. Of all the suspention mods (except for tie bars), sways has the LEAST # of possible downsides.

Faster tire where?
No

Suspention Damage?
No

Ahhh Really..... Good to know. I'm not super happy with the Comptech bars (They are way better than stock, but could be more stiff).

At least I know that I can replace them and get better!

Thanks for the correction.

Even after I talked to an engineer there about the complete specs, they changed the data after I talked to them.

The front was supposed to be a thicker wall and the calc is more involved than just doing a solid bar calc (solid change: just use ratio of forth power of diameter if steel has same modulus and are solid).

Who knows what the real story is. I've seen the "specs"/"info" change twice (my oldest posts are long gone) with the same bars.

The do seem to work. They seem to have a slight bias towards oversteer (more increase in rear roll stiffness).

YMMV

The rear...but with comptech's you dont really have a choice. it's both or nothing.

did a search after someone else was talking about sways...i think i would go neuspeed race when i add sways...correct me if im wrong but might sways also add to off the line traction...as we launch theres probablly some torquing of the suspension and i m thinking the sways might make the rear suspension take the weight shift on more evenly and reduce the transfer???
also all these sways are made for the accord as previously stated, so what might be a nice increase for them, is modest for our heavier more powerfull car, and what might be very stiff (race)for the accord, ends up being just right for the enthusiast..

hey, can you take a test run after you install either the front or rear? then let us know if there was any difference with both of them installed? I don't think it'll matter which one.

This could determine the affect of the front sway. I still cannot see how much diffence it could make, even if it has slightly thicker walls.
