Sway bars and there Push?Need Help!

I was thinking about getting the Comptech sway bars for my CLS next week, i am already getting the Comptech headers and AEM CAI. So, my question, do the sway bars cause too much push around a turn, R they worth it. or should i stay stock and deal w/ body roll? I need info and would really appriciate your advice on the sway bars. THANX

Type S,

Get the sways & springs. You will not regret it. Ride quality is firmer but not harsh. More like a 5 series IMO. The car has significantly less roll in corners and tucks in much quicker.

IMO, the sways & springs are the best bang for the buck any one can do to their CL.

What about getting JUST sways if I don't want to lower my car? How much better will the car feel then?

thats what i'm talking about, i dont like lowered cars. b/c i like to go over speed bumps at a noraml rate of speed, not bust out all this sideways shit on the street and look like an idiot. but from what i've been collecting, sways really make turning tighter. not exactly what springs do to benifit my car, besised the looks.

Sways only would work too, but the 1 - 1.25 inch drop of the Comptech springs are not that big of a deal. I haven't scraped on anything yet and I frequently travel in a neighborhood filled with those damn annoying speed humps. I don't even slow down for them anymore. The car is defintely lower with the springs, but it seems as though I don't have to be nearly as careful as I thought I'd have to be. (Knock on wood!)

Funny... at stock height I hit a freakin' median and screw up my front end and now with springs... no problems at all. Go fig.

On the other hand, if I had to choose just one of the two, I'd choose sways because I believe they do more for the handling than the springs do.

That’s the way I am thinking also.
I don’t want to worry about ground clearance in snow, but I would like the handling improvement that the sways alone will seem to provide.

OK, so now the question is, can we get a group buy on sways???

I'm being serious, I think. What's the best price on these things? And can you install them yourself?

I got a quote for $175 labor to install the front and rear. Is this "in-range"?

I was asking about the installation price, not the cost of the deal.

I sent Tim an email for a quote as well (f/r/headers). So, $175.00 is the quote to install. Is this a "reasonable" price for installing the front *and* rear bars (when they come in)?

BTW -- I am curious about anybody's alignment experience with the springs too!

I was just checking the HELM manual and this sure looks like a possible Do-It-Yourself project over at my buddy’s house.
He is one that you might say is “good with tools”.

Looks like (6) bolts for the front and (6) bolts for the rear after jacking and removing the respective pair of wheels.

Has anyone attempted this ????

I know, I know.....You want HELM scans.....SCREW OFF buy your own.

I think I'm definately getting sways now... But I haven't heard anything on this board about the Koni adjustable schocks.. Would that be a best bet if you want to get sways w/ no springs.. I figure the shocks would help with the handling more then the springs.. Maybe i'm wrong.

When I bought my springs/sways there wasn't even a camber correction kit out yet. I think I saw one available at autocarparts.com now, but I'm not sure. I don't think it's a must though. My car doesn't look like SLAMCLTYPES's rear wheels! As far as the alignment goes, mine was fine. There were no parameters outside the acceptable range, but they still tweaked them and got them a little more close to the "ideal" settings.

As for camber readjustments I was told by our very excellent Acura mechanic/member that comptech now makes a camber correction kit for the 01 CL but only for the rear. It's not listed on their site though, but I think he received some info about it. I hope the kit wasn't just a remention of the kit for the years 97 -99. (Jens correct me if I fluxed up here).

As for alignment I was advised to do defintely do it. With the springs and sways all of my wheels are in spec except the left rear which was about .2 off spec. Not a problem but I keep an eye on it.

As for getting the sways, RUN DONT WALK to Tim or wherever and get them. A major improvement. Someone here said that the stock sways look like toys when compared to the Comptech and after checking out my stock sways its defintely true. As Gold already said, if I had to choose between springs and sways I'd go for the sways. With that said the springs are never a problem (except when parking front in to a high curb) and the car looks much better with them. And hardly any brake drive when stopping or squat when accelerating.

What is a camber correction kit? Do you need to get one if you install sways? I am not a big fan of aftermarket products that fuck with the original functions of the car (like "bypass valves" for CAIs and "camber correction kits" that are ONLY available for the rear sways).

Thanks.

Technique,

Camber kits are design to correct the camber angles of your tires after lowering the car. With only sways installed, you don't need the kit. It's only when you lower the car, that you may need the kit.

Where did you get that quote? I'm considering springs and sways from Snook, and am looking for a good place for install and alignment.

For alignment I'd go to Firestone Tire. They are the only ones in California I found that do LIFETIME alignment. It's $130.00 and you can take the car back for full alignment as many times as you want for free for the rest of the life of the car. A good deal when you consider most places charge $70.00 to align our cars.

Yuppie in a word, youbetterfuckingbelieveit! I'd hop on up to Park Avenue Acura and get it done there. I've driven sports cars up until the CL and after the sways I almost feel that old tight n tuck feel again. The Comptech sways are much meatier than the stock. Before Christmas Park Avenue charged me another $74 to install the sways but that was because my car was already there for the springs. It might be more but at least it'll be done right.

And everybody must remember that if your not satisfied with any suspension upgrade its always possible to return everything to stock. Just keep your stock parts.

Good Luck
