SUV for 40-50K?

My mother-in-law wants a Midsize Luxury SUV and I have been trying to give her suggestions. She could afford just about anything but wants to get something in between the Explorer and Navigator size (she has a 2001 Navigator now).

When you think about it, there is not much in the midsize range. She thinks the MDX is too small. The GMC Envoy is nice but not upscale enough... the Pilot... well it's a Honda. Same with the Toyotas. RX 300 is too small, LX-470 is too big.

So, I think she is going to get the new Lincoln Aviator. 302 HP V-8 and a whole bunch of cool features.

Do you guys have any recommendations? I have been trying to talk her into the Hummer H2, but it's not her image.

Thanks,

-Ash

Aviator would be the perfect fit. IMO. She may find the X5 a bit small.

Lexus GX 470 coming out in November sounds perfect, if she wants a real luxury SUV.

If she thinks the MDX is too small, then she would never get in the X5, which is very small inside. The aviator is an explorer and you say she wants a size between the explorer and navigator so... Size wise the GX makes sense, since it is bigger than a midsize and smaller than a full size. The Discovery should fit her desired size, but it's not the most comfortable or reliable.

The RX300 and MDX are too small? Good lord, what is this world coming to?

Wait wait...let me guess. She needs some huge tank to get her safely to the grocery store and back. After all, she'll need that huge towing capacity and cargo space for that 1 gallon jug of milk.

What about a nice Lexus LS or GS-series sedans? Why does she need some big ass juggernaut to drive around? Or if the AWD suits her, a loaded up Audi A6.

Yes, it is an image problem. The MDX and X5 are too small. She had an order in for a LS 430 until her husband recently passed away. She likes to ride hide. I will check out the new lex.

How bout a Land Rover(I know they are a Ford company but some of the rappers and big name stars you see rolling in those with 20's )
another option is the Benz ML500(which is very good SUV)
how about the Porshe SUV coming out( i don't know the price) but it's called something like the Canyon. That will be classy

The ML (320 or 500) is smaller than the MDX. The Cayenne comes out next year and will start at 55k for the S model and 85 for the turbo.

How about the upcoming Infiniti FX45? The current QX4 has a small interior (for a person who thinks the MDX is too small)
