Suspekt's 2003 CLS6 Needs Your Help (headlights and hood)
Hi all,
I am a longtime member but not a frequent poster.
If you look at my albums, you will see that I have had 2 CLS's and I consider it a superb peice of engineering.
Long story short, my car was damaged in a collision and insurance wants to write it off. The damage is actually minimal. It runs and drives fine.
I considered taking a payout and moving on but I just cant do it. Even after 7 years and 200,000 miles on 2 chassis, I still like it too much. Plus, I cant let someone else buy it at auction and take my CLS and drive it with no respect for the effort that was put into it. If it was heavily damaged with buckling ANYWHERE, I would move on. If there was suspension damage or engine shift, I would move on. But the damage is cosmetic.
I was rear ended and pushed into another car. The damage is all in the front.
The insurance company is having trouble sourcing parts here in Vancouver BC and therefore the cost of repair is esclating.
What I am looking from the group for (I have checked the BM and sent some PM's) are the following parts:
1. Headlights (2003) and associated parts
--> I have a DDM Tuning xenon kit that can replace the stock HID setup
2. Hood
3. Possibly front fenders but they look fine
4. All associated parts with the above (fender liner, rad support cross brace, etc).
There are other parts, but the above are the main ones.
I have a body shop that will charge me cost. Good friend.
If anyone has any leads on parts or can put me in touch with someone who has these items, please let me know.
This CL's time has not yet come!!!

they always have very competitive prices and they are new. they also offer free shipping on anything over $700 (i believe). not sure if that applies to you since you are in Vancouver, but worth calling to find out.

I have a hood if you want it, Im not sure how bad shipping would be though. It would most likely have to be shipped freight.

Hey Civicdrivr, I had you on my mind yesterday because I was sure you had some thoughtful ideas.
I will get a couple pics up later this morning.
I have found a 2001 CLS I can buy for $2,700. It runs and body is perfect. It might have to give up it's life to save my CLS.
I will keep everyone updated here.
Civicdrivr, I will send you a PM. Thanks for looking at this!

Hi, here in Vancouver, BC and in a 500 mile radius, there are very few 2003 CLS's to grab front end parts from OR they want way too much for their used parts.
I will try a combo of the following probably:
- buy a whole 2001 CLS and take parts from it (its basically identical for the parts I need).... do the 2003 bumper farings (fog light plugs) fit the 2001 CL bumper?
- buy selective parts from members here (2003 headlights seem hard to find)
- buy new parts from OEMACURAPARTS
Body shop paint and labour will be at cost to bodyshop.
I will get some pics up next

This was the CL before the hit:
And this is after the accident. The car was hit from behind and pushed into the MB C-class in front. I suspect the car that rear ended hit my trailer hitch and therefore rear-end damage is almost non-existant.
Front end damage is from my front end (above the bumper) contacting the Mercedes rear bumper. The damage is very superficial as most of the body panels near the A-pillars seem fine. The suspension is fine. Coolant didnt even leak although the rad support is bent and pushed back.

Id be concerned about the radiator and support mostly. The rest is cosmetic. I doubt the a/c condenser was damaged since it is mounted low, but it is a possibility.

Huh... I wonder how hard of an impact must be required to set off the Airbag impact sensor as you basically hit it dead center where the Impact Sensor is located (behind the grill). Yet, you even damaged the radiator support brace among the other body parts and this still was not enough to trigger the airbag sensor. Guess that sensor will take quite the impact for it to trigger I suppose and your damage without airbag deployed was more then enough to total the car? Wow!

Looks like a relatively easy fix to me. How did your radiator and air conditioning fare in the accident? I was going to say 'buy a doner car' but from the looks of it that would be overkill. Any hooked up salvage yard should be able to take care of you for the few parts you're going to need.
Look at the bright side, now you get to repaint the car.

No, there have been cars that are stationary at a red light whom have been hit dead on front from a driver who lost control of his car that hit the stationary driver and their airbags deployed. The impact sensor doesn't take into account acceleration/deceleration rather then the impact which sends an electric jolt that turns Sodium Azide to Nitrogen gas. Hell, my senile Great Aunt ran through a fence and hit a parked car with no occupants and the airbag in the parked car deployed.
