Supercharging without Comptech?

Are there any other companies that make superchargers for a cl-s besides Comptech? I am thinking about perhaps trying somthing with a rotorex supercharger. Also I am wondering why the Compech output is rather low? Is that just the maximum potential of that engine? Can they run more power safely?

I remember someone up in here talking about a vortech style supercharger or osmething of the sort...

And from what I know, the comptech supercharger was designed and made to not give monster output performance, but rather to give the car a better hp and torque boost across the whole rpm range... basically making you feel like you have a bigger engine in the bay than the 3.2... all in the pursuit of maintaining daily driveability and reliability.

Yes i'm sure my automatic went from 195 stock to 295 supercharged.

The MT version makes more than 100whp.

Comptech's dyno on their website is for the low boost pulley. Almost everyone is running the high boost pulley which is only a $75 upgrade.

I believe it's different gains than an 02-03 that they are talking about. We start at 260 and therefore don't climb as high

The thing with the Comptech dyno's is that they lump H + S/C, so the net-net of the S/C is 22whp less.

CL-S AUTO w/std pulley : 45whp max gain w/ peak of 265whp
CL-S 6MT w/std pulley : 64whp max gain w/ peak of 299whp

Of course you are adding $2K worth of H/E to the S/C cost for these #'s. They don't show dyno #'s for JUST the S/C because it would be considerably less; I'd say 25-30whp less just due to less exhaust flow.

IC'd CL-S 6MT with 8psi (scalbert's) have made ~370whp but that setup costs around $3.5K (S/C) + $1K (Header) + $300 (exhaust-cutout) + $3K-$4K for the I/C setup w/E-manage = $8K-$9K.

So, when people start saying that a Turbo-kit is soooo..... much more expensive, they forget to add 'total' cost. Yes, the S/C costs around $3.5K but w/headers you are looking at $4K - $4.5K. Beyond that, add the IC, E-Manage, extra fuel-mods etc. and you are at pretty much the same price - except that the turbo lands you 50whp more at less boost!

Of course, the Comptech S/C is CARB certified etc....

Reliability, reliability, reliability... and CARB legal...

I'm running CT i/sc/h/fullcat which outputs 305/262 WHP/TQ as dyno'd at CT... this is plenty of power for me. I could go with the HBP but would need higher octane fuel which to me isn't worth the trouble and potential reliability issues down the road. Besides, my CLS 6MT is my daily driver.

$3.5K + $1k + $300 + $2.5K for the IC.

You've got your IC numbers mixed up.

Total cost is around $7k

Add installation - most people are not doing it themselves

Does your turbo-kit price include installation?

The IC install is pretty damn simple. Much easier than the initial S/C'er install. A S/C'er install will run around $700.

^^ Yes... of course! A kit with the 'extras' such as guages, 2nd injector, exhaust-cutout etc. will be obviously more...

I am just tired of people saying that the S/C is sooo much more cheaper... a comparable kit is not - its the same for less power!

Plus, everybody and their Mom has a S/C...

You have excellent points and i'd love to have a turbo set up!

But like you've said before, if I paid full price for all my mods I would have been broke long ago!

The total cost for my "go-fast" modifications (including installation) on my old CL-S was $4,200

^ Not including the IC which I never installed and sold for the same price I paid.

I guess I'm not "most" people Saving install cost buys a lot of mods. I personally don't think it's a complicated install. Headers are more of a pain to install than the SC kit. SC kit just takes more time.

Allmotor's turbo kit is definitely a very good value at $8K. Not too many places you can get a custom kit with as much specific development built in. Turbo kit has much more whp potential. SC is consertively designed/built and does have limitations. You will hit the cap on the SC far in advance of the turbo kit if you're shooting for whp. CARB approval was a big factor for me - just one issue I don't want to deal with. Each has it's own pros and cons - just depends on what you're going for.

Hah, I thought your questions seemed fairly well addressed...

-There is no other supercharger on the market other than comptech...
-Comptech output is "so low" to better emphasize reliability and daily driveability rather peak power output...
-And with a hbp and a proper set up, you can get a gain of roughly 100hp...
