To SuperCharge or TurboCharge?

Hey guys. I have been thinking for the past couple of months whether to put a turbocharger on my CL-S or a supercharger (waiting of course for one to be released!). I have heard that turbocharging engines in Honda/Acuras can be really bad for them and that i should ONLY supercharge. Have you guys heard anything about it? Cus a turbo on a CL-S would be sweeeet!

Save your money and buy a car meant to tolerate charging.

This car is the antithesis to such a car: We are FWD, weak auto tranny, small brakes, and front heavy.

You really want to do this with a different car.

yeah but it would be cool to see a turbo setup on a CL-s... i say go turbo!! sc uses engine power to produce power... while turbo's use exhaust pressure to make power!!... go TURBO

I'm not real familiar with turboing a NA engine but I know you're gonna run into a lot more problems than you think. Not with the tranny but with enigine components. I'm sure there's someone here that knows specifics...

it is totally up to u..i prefer supercharger ....no need to worry about over heat..or cooling system....turbo got a lot of boost power..but u need to worry about turbo lag and over heating..cooling system..upgrade a bigger fuel injectors...etc....

I think a turbo would be cooler, gotta love the sound of a blowoff valve. However, a supercharger would be a heck of a lot easier considering comptech should be selling one any day now.

A turbo setup won't work on our cars without some MAJOR and i mean MAJOR engine work. The compression is too high. It would need to be lowered and this you'd have to lower compression pistons, which means you probably have to do some work on the head or block etc., etc., It would cost you atleast 10k for a custom setup since nobody currently procduces it. Rick case and 4.1L TT setup but something in the transmission kept breaking. Also remember that w/ a turbo setup the fuel mappings in the ECU would need to be reworked.

A supercharger is the best bet for the current CLS.

Here's how *I* see it.

Do I want a daily driver with a lot of power, or a balls to the wall 1/4 mile monster?

If your answer is Daily Driver with a lot power, then think Super Charger.

If you answer is balls to the wall 1/4 mile monster, think Turbo Charger.

Unless you use a twin turbo sequential setup (I think that's the right term), you will have to makes sacrifices with a turbo setup for either quick spool up good low end, but poorer top end, or more turbo lag down low, but awesome top end power.

A roots/eaton SuperCharger will give you the AWESOME low end power, put your top end will be limited unless you go with a centrifugal type (ie Vortex) super charger.

I believe most super charger setups are load based, so that they ONLY provide boost when you need it. The parasitic effect of the SC shouldn't be much worse than running your AC compressor.
