Sunroof Pet Peeve

Ok, I always forget to ask all of you about this. Whats the deal with the goddamn sunroof that opens half way? Why make a sunroof that big and not let it open all the way? I have a visor as well so my roof opening is only like 4 or 5 inches, not cool. I asked the dealer about this, only to get 'Thats normal' response.

LOL. But nonetheless...I want my goddamn sunroof to open all the way. Is that so difficult to accomplish?

They designed it that way so you wouldnt stick your head up and get hit by rocks, stones, or whatever.

Actually, it bothers me too ... I'm gonna take a look at it this weekend to see if I can open it a little more.

It's the slope of the car....it can't go back any farther without compromising the strength of the roof. You could have had one that opened all the way...but it would look like Honda Civic with the glass sticking out the top of the roof.

It won't open any farther. Remember- the glass slides inside the roof- not on top. Look at the distance from the back of the sunroof to the rear window. How much of that is available for the glass to slide into? The problem seems worse when you have a visor on, covering the front 4 inches. Its not a bug- its a feature

we talked about this last month when i was relatively new. this was what i said,

"who was the genius who decided the let the sunroof go back only 75% of the way?? do u know how hard it is to pop my head up out of the sunroof when u got the wind-guard to contend with?? my '93 Infiniti G20 doesn't have that problem??"

Would you been happier if they made a smaller roof that slid in all the way? I was reading the post related to this issue last month when I test drove the car, I played with the roof while driving, and I can live with it.

So, you must be the "What Not to Do" guy that Honda looked at when designing the sunroof. Thanks for ruining it for everybody.

....also, I'll bet that the wind noise would be significantly louder if it opened all the way. And, I'm sure the backseat passengers would just love all that wind too!

This post is pure entertainment. Now that we are talking about roof desing, why de hell is the roof line so low and I do not have head room whatsoever. Everytime I go over hills too fast I hit my head on the roof . I want more headroom dammit. I should've paid better attention when I was buying, but I was too mezmorized by the CL, could not think straight, I HAD TO HAVE IT, VROOM VROOM. 260 go fast, wow, leather, wow, 6-cd disk in dash, wow, I must have it NOW.

Its a great car, but I will be a more educated shopper next time.

Somehow I think Microsoft is involved in all of this somehow... Damn there was this chain mail going around a number of years ago... "10 things that would happen if Microsoft made cars".. hehe

MikeN: I'm 6' 1/2".... It's not the height, but the room between my legs and the steering wheel. I just wish there was a telescopic steering wheel but like I said, I can deal with the car, nothing is perfect..

Oh, I totally agree. They should have added the telescopic steering wheel. Although, that would bump up the price and add more weight too.

They must have been some heavy azz people, cause I have people back there all the time and still jetting pretty well.

As far as head room, I am 6 1" and unless I sit in a certain way, my head always finds ways to touch the ceiling. The car feels somewhat cramped because of low roofline.
I dont like to tilt the back of the seat because I am not about laying in the car

I traded in a 95 Legend for my CLS... The Legend sunroof was AWESOME! It was twice as big, someone in the passenger seat could stand up - it was great. The roof size in the CL is the problem, as someone stated earlier.

I also miss the Legend telescopic wheel, just cause of the look on someones face when they see it move out automatically when you put the key in. I want that in the 2002 CL.
