"Street Racing"???

Today when i logged on to the forum i saw three new threads in the racing section. i like when we argue about which car would be what car with each modification (my favorite the gs400 vs the cl-s), but anyway....in two of the three topics that i read, about the only thing that was being said was how stupid "Street Racing" is.....I have one problem with this.....nearly every one of the topics posted in the racing sections is not about what will happen at the track....we use the 1/4 mile time to see who might have an edge when two particular cars meet on the street.

Being a "Street Racer" myself, i love it.....i am well aware of the danger that i put myself in as well as the people in other cars around me.....two cars lined up at a stop light racing to 100 mph, for example, in my opinion is ok.
However, going 100 mph in heavy traffic, or any traffic just isn't right....no matter how much skill you have, you don't know what the other cars are going to do, and cannot be prepared for that.

Let's just clarify...there is a difference between a light to light race with no cars in front of you and going 100 mph in heavy traffic and nearly clipping every car you pass.

don't misunderstand, i don't want to start any trouble...but i think we need to understand the difference between the two types of "Street Racing" i mentioned above.

thanks

0-100MPH from light to light is INSANE!....

I am sure if the second light is green you would keep flying, right?
What do you do if you hit an orange light, you keep flying and burn a red light what if some one is going on his greed light and hit him head-on on 90 MPH!!!

That is INSANE!

i didn't say you had to be going that fast......most of us don't go that fast in the 1/4 anyway. my point was that racing light to light isn't as big of a deal as the traffic racing i talked about.....just take it easy. i'm not trying to call anybody out....just wanted to make a point.

thanks again

I myself wont deny the pleasure I get from 85% acceleration from start, but there is just too much at stake...

You cant assume that just because the street is empty, it is any safer...I went to traffic school a while back, and the guy talked about a street race where two guys lined up, and a third guy acted as a flag man to signal go. When he waved the flag, the 2 cas took off...but one of the cars immediately lost control (tire blow out or something), the car vered, and slammed into a family of people waiting at a bus stop...all three people were charged with murder...

This of course is an EXTREME example, but just goes to show the unpredictability involved.

Of course, what else are we going to do? There is such a wide array of high performance cars avaliable for purchase, but how many tracks are arround for us to actually drive them on? But I guess dont always have to make sense...

There is always a high degree of danger involved when racing. Whether at the track or on the street. A deserted piece of road with no crossroads at 1AM is probably one of the best places for street racing and there is still danger.

But racing from stoplight to stoplight on a local street increases the danger tenfold. Then "racing" through evening traffic is the worst one of all. Unfortunately this is how most people who are not "true street racers" will end up racing. They get off of school/work and get on the highway, see another guy and start speeding and chasing and passing etc, then passing on shoulders etc... for what? Nothing. Other drivers won't even see them passing on the right when they are going 20-30mph faster. They may choose to calmly switch lanes etc and the "racer" goes right into the back of them because he wanted to pass on the right and whip into the lane....

I don't condone any form of racing like that.
I know I do occasionally speed and enjoy the occasional jackrabbit starts etc. But I won't line up and try and win for a notch on my belt and neither will I race through the daily traffic.

Not to be an ass but that means the street wasn't empty if there were people waiting at the bus stop. Most street racing scenes are on a completely deserted street.

Anyway stoplight to stoplight races are the best. But going a hundred or so thru stoplights is just plain crazy. I don't even triple digit race, and most are just sprints to 60 or 70. ALL forms of racing is dangerous. Let's clear that up. My boy went and got a new mark VIII and was testing it at the track, he lost control at the start and slammed the side of his quarter panel into the side wall. He was ok and there was minor damage but that goes to show, you can wreck at a track or on the streets. I am not a street racing flunky, but I have seen shit at the tracks and street.

lol, Thorodred...i was thinking that same thing about the streets not being deserted if a family was sitting at a bus stop right next to the stop light.

Anyway, unless there is going to be a cop on every street all the time, street racing is going to continue.

just don't be a dumb ass when you're out there so you can MINIMIZE the rist of injury or damage.....

thanks

The critiron set by red30cl was that there was no traffic on the street. And besides, people on the bench are not ON the street right? They were sitting well within the sidewalk area, and so, the street was actually empty...

Ok---Nows a good time to tell my story on how I lost my first car--My 1999 Sebring Convertible....I was doing just that, racing light to light down Walnut Street in Philly on my way home one night after a party...NO HEAVY TRAFFIC --In fact NO TRAFFIC....All of a sudden a FIRE ENGINE pulls out and I have to swerve and I go into the back of a car....

My Sebring is Fawked at that point, luckily me and my passenger did not sustain injury....

Now, luckily once more, the car I hit was stolen and the owner came out and took off--By the time the cop got there, no one was around and me and my girl were dead in the middle of West Philly at 3:30 AM... I told the cop some BS , the fire engine was long gone--And he wrote it up as No fault...

I learned my lesson....Hopefully red30cl, you won't have to learn it that way....

Just be safe man, your not ever "SAFE" when street racing...I thought I was and I almost killed myself and a beautiful girl who has a son!

Ok 5 miles away , on rt-3 north, between exit 4-5, there is a nice 1 miles HW straight... if I say at 2:00AM or say at nice sunny spring Sunday morning at 5:00 AM and NO traffice....I would not mind taking my CLS from rolling start 30-40 to a 110 MPH, but that is only me....

Coming at exit "marked 4" at 85 MPH.... entering the straigt, downshift to 3rd... you have ample sapce to hit max speed... but usually... I cut it out at 105-110 MPH or just after I shift to 4th...

The only pain in the ass, if the state trooper has perched his patrol car just at the end of the strecth, to your right, and very near top of the Sound Noise Walls....

A mendatory Scouting mission is in order before each run

I agree with most people on the forum saying that most types of racing, both on the street and on the track, is dangerous. I just learned, thanks to you guys, that racing on highways probably is not worth the chance. I won't do it again, because its just not worth killing someone else, like the post above about the family being killed. I am in a little different of a boat than you guys since my truck tops out at 100mph, but still, when someone is weaving and driving recklessly, he puts himself and everyone else on the road in danger. But, don't get me wrong, I am a chronic speeder, as are most drivers, but I hardly ever put anyone else into danger when I'm driving, only because it just isn't worth it.

So....my message is DRIVE SAFE everyone...know your limits.

And, regarding my sig...do it within your limits

Thanks Guys for the lesson, I really needed it!!

I myself also used to be street race, then my eyes wereopened up when a friend of mine was racing at a hot spot here in Kansas. He was driving his 300zx against a VR-4. Hre lost control of his Z and flipped it, it rolled/bounced three time and then hit a tree. It was the worst crash that I have ever seen in my life. I hate to say it, but my friend now sits in a wheel chair that he moves by blowing air into a straw like device. Every time I hear or think about street racing I am reminded of my friend's life that was ruined in an instant because of the stupidity of one action.

NO street racing is reasonable, light to light is just as stup[id as racing to 200mph in my opinion. People do not ahve the right to endanger other peoples lives because of their own stupidity. I know that if I was hit by a street racer going 90mph, I would be pissed, if I was still alive.

I also have to say to all of the stupid street racers, think about your family or friends, how would you feel if your family/friend was killed by someone who fealt like racing. There is never a garuntee that someone isn't going to randomly pull out in front of you.

Think about what all of you do on the street,m because you are not only responsible for your life, but also the lives of the people around you.

I know that you aren't going to stop racing on the streets just because of this, but at least think about what you woould feel like if you killed someone each time you line up to that light.

Oh by the way, I am a strong supporter and member or RASR, or Racers Against Street Racing.

I know that people don't stop racing on the streets just because of one person, but if I can get one person to stop, then my missio is accolpished
