I was explained both coatings. The determination was when someone told me that one is for looks and the other is for performance.

Jet Hot is done inside and out and has a lifetime guarantee with new parts. It will perform as well, maybe better, and it looks alot better now, and many years from now.
IMO, Swain will not perform any better.

I may be mistaken, but isn't Jet Hot thinner in application than Swain.
***EDIT*** I just called Jet Hot and asked them about their coatings. I asked about how thick of an application they do on the headers. Their response was 1 thousand's of an inch
(.001 <= I think) , and that is for the chrome look. The tech also went on to tell me that they also have another coating, the 2000 that is better and stronger. The 2000 can hold up to 2000 degrees and is meant for FI engines, while the other chrome coating can only hold up to 1300 degrees. The 2000 coating comes in colors of blue, black and grey. Too bad they don't make the 2000 coatings in a SS or chrome color, then I would be more swayed into going with Jet Hot.
Now here is the deciding factor. Swain coats their headers with a true 0.015 thermal barrier, Jet Hot...well they couldn't give me an exact number and told me that the coating is sprayed on and it should be around 4 thousand's of an inch (.004) for the 2000 coatings. Now I did ask Jet Hot if they do also coat the interior of the headers and they confirmed that they do. That there makes me alittle skeptical. Sure it is only .004" (
) on the inside of the headers, but still logically it seems that the coatings are choking the headers and making them more restrictive. I did try to call Swain to confirm if they do or do not coat the insides of the headers. But because we both reside on the East coat they were closed. I will try and call tomm and see what they say.
So to wrap this up. I feel that going with Swain would be the better. The coatings are thicker, but I only would wish that Swain would make a SS/Chrome coating then I would be sold for them hands down. Oh and where I stated that it is only .004" coating on the inside...I was making a pun
.One more thing, $195 for the regular coating and $220 for the 2000 coating...:shakehd: , compared to $175 that Swain would charge. All those factors play a vital role in how I feel who has the better coating.
Sry if I somehow upset up but this wasn't intended to be a flame.

Status Update (June 30 , 2003):
Q: Is there any new status update or news on the headers?
We should be now very close to have them here; it is some 30 days since they were shipped.
A: Yes, Very soon indeed - I will find out and confirm.
Now, it is really very close....
Nashua.

U know what I don't know. I checked out their web site and found nothing in regards to warranties. I'll call Tuesday and ask if they also coat the insides of the headers and ask about the warranty.

Status Update (July 1st , 2003):
New Email: Ok - I expect them within the next couple weeks or so, baring custom delays
They have been X-RAYING the containers for each shipments - but we will find out
Very sorry about all the wait, but soon they will be installed in peoples cars!
Thanks!

Ok Like I said before that I would call Swain Tuesday and ask them more questions, well here u go.
They do not coat the insides of the headers, theywill however do so if u want. The tech guy went on to tell me that their coating is a ceramic metalic coating and is not sprayed on like Jet Hot. Jet Hot confirmed that they do spray it on the outside and insides then bake the part. Swain doesn not bake, the application is a molten process. Swain's tech went on to tell me that they could do the inside at no adittional charge, but it would not be a complete inside coating. He gave me an example that if u had 36" runners, that they would be only able to coat about 8" of the inside of the runners. He said that very few people with turbo applications would want the inside coated because of the high exhaust temp associated with turbos. I also asked him and we both confirmed that coating the inside of the headers would only restrict the exhaust flow and not be benificial on an N/A application.
Oh yea and about warranty, Life Time. The tech support guy went on to explain to me that the only time anyone has ever brought in a part that needed warranty work was not because of coating falure. An example that he have me was that someone came in with headers that needed recoating, the reason was because the headers got so hot (turbo application) that the headers warped, cracked, and flaked away. Ovbiously not a warranty claim, but Swain still recoated the headers. Another example that he have me was that racers would bring in their headers that were just on their race car that was wrecked. Sometimes they woudl have to cut out parts to salvage them, and in the process would dammage the coating. In turn they would bring it in and Swain would recoat them, free of charge, wow. Oh and did I mention that the warranty is Life Time
.
So if u know anything about Jet Hot, plz tell me cause what everyone was telling me before that Jet Hot is for looks and Swain is for performance, all seem to be right.

Hey Juker
Im having mine sent direct to swain. they said to just call them up and give them a heads up. when its coming in. I had the same questions but after talking to both jet and swain what youve been told seems right. may be we can get a discount if we get a couple more people in.

Sounds good, again.
I do like the Jet Hot finish better but, no one will ever see mine under the blower in front, and the rear you just can't see anyways. My main goal is to reduce the temps in the engine bay, and underneath by the oil pan.

Now to make sure where I should be shipping the headers, once the header are here.. I will post here and ask those who want to ship direct to the either Swain or JetHot to comfirm where to ship their headers.

Thats why I posted if anyone was planing on having their headers Swain coated. So far it is just me and u but maybe I could convince ModAddic to join in on us. Swain had better work out a deal for just three of us, if not I am resorting to the Wholesale licence

I'll Go with the Swain coating. Do they know the A pipe has the flex section in it? I don't care one way or the other if the flex section is coated, but I do want it from there forward. I don't like that so much of the A pipe is so close to the oil pan.

Haaaaaaaaaaa.
The flex pipe is after the headers, before the cat. Aftermarket headers don't include the flex pipe, soooooooooo that will never be coated.

So is that included in the $175?

Yes, that's the "A pipe", between the headers and the cat. Comptech and Stone Racing, and OBX, do inclure the A pipe. And yes, I want that coated, and so should you!

I'm sry, I do appoligize for giving u the wrong information. U are absolutely right. The "A pipe" does have the flex joint in it. Somewhere in my hollowed head I thought that aftermarket headers didn't come with the flex joint.
About Swain coating the A pipe. For $175 they do it all. Now about the flex pipe, I would doubt it because the coating is not a paint like Jet Hot. I could only assume that once applied and dryed/cooled it should be solid, thus defeating the purpose of the flex joint. I would call them again and ask them but I've run up my LD phone bill. Give em a call and let me know what they say. If they don't do it on average then they must have a good reason why they don't do so. When I called and asked them about coating the inside of the headers they told me that they don't do it, but will do it if I request at no aditional charge.

I called and spoke to Mr Swain, Don maybe, anyways the A-pipe would be another $40 and they mask the flex section. The Jet Hot is $175 and another $36 for the A-pipe, so it's the same $. I like that they are in NY,....probably 1 day shipping from Nashau, and 1-2 day into Mi.

Ok now I am really
. Is the A-pipe the portion after the flex joint? I can't see why Swain would charge $175 for the collectors and $40 for, what I assume is the A-pipe, the portion of the headers that couple to the collectors.
When I called Swain before, I confirmed with them that $175 would cover "everything". About Jet Hot quoting u $175, I was quoted $195. Maybe there is something that u are telling them that I am not. Going into detail and finding that both sides won't do certain parts/sections. Thats good
.Juker008
Basically you'll be getting 3 pieces. The front header, the back header, and the downpipe (a-pipe). The flex section is about 10" built into the a-pipe, but it's all one piece. Here's a piture from the Comptech site, but it's the same as the Stone set-up. That curved 180 section going into the Y sits right under the oil pan and bakes your lower end! The flex section of the A-pipe is just before the cat flange at the back end of the A-pipe.

I sent the same picture to JetHot for a quote and it is $175 for the front and back headers and $36 for the A-pipe, plush shipping from them to me. The shipping cost to JetHot or Swain is included in the $400 cost from Nashau.

I'm going on vacation (Canada), and won't have access to this site for a week. Can you hold my product until I get in contact with you (sometime after July 14th), as to shipping to me or to Swain? Ed
