Are the stock TL-s slow?

Question for all you street racers. I got rid of my CLs a couple weeks ago and I have a 2004 I35. A stock looking TLs tried to race me from a light today and lost. I thought just from driving my CL, even when it was stock, and the I35, that the CL was definately faster. Did this guy car just suck?

You'd have to give more details on the race...like what speed did you run up to and how far? Obviously, if it was a short race then whoever got the jump would win. I've raced Sti's at the track that jump out by 2 cars before I even get moving. If the race only lasted 100 feet then they'd claim victory. By the end of a 1/4 mile though I am usually about 4 bus lengths ahead and pulling like crazy.

I would have to say from light to light. At most a little less than a quarter mile. I got up to about 80-85 mph. And at the end I was about a car length ahead of him. Reaction was about the same.

i'm not really sure. my best friend has an i35. it's bone stock and runs a 15.1 in the 1/4. his car feels slower, but rides smoother than my cls did stock.

Ravi..you have more low end torque than a stock TL-s but after 100 he should get you. You also have a bigger engine 3.5 compared to a 3.2. I dont know the difference in weight between your car and the TL but I cant imagine its alot

dont know if somethings wrong with my cl-s but my friends stock tl-s keeps up with me for some reason...but like, ive beaten a number of cars that i know are faster than a tl-s, especially a stock one...so either somethings wrong with my car (most likly the case) or he drives a "factory freak" lol

The I35/TL-S race comparison would pretty much the same as a 5.5G Maxima/TL-S comparison, with the exception that the I35 is a hair "slower" than the 5.5G Maxima...weight being the main difference (sort of like having another person in the 5.5G Maxima weighing 150lbs. ).

It's about 300 lbs less than the TL.

I really feel like the I35 is a lot slower than the CL. And this was really the first time I let it go. I really didn't buy a car to race. This guy was just being an ass, so I figured...."what the hell." The thing is I really expected to get killed, but even as we got faster it seemed like I was pulling away.

Maybe I'm going to have to look into headers and an intake for this car after-all.

Y-Pipe speak to F23A4 he'll tell you how to get this car into 13's rather easily

Actually per nissanhelp.com and Infinitihelp.com curb weights are off give or take 20lbs.

Curb Weights:
03 GLE Nissan Maxima 3289lbs give or take navigation
04 Infiniti I35 3306lbs give or take navigation

Anyway, sup Ravi -
Just browsing thru, trying to find this infamous black CL-S that had raped my cousins 2001 modded eclipse. He got so mad that he bought the 4th gen eclipse and wants a rematch lol.

My 02 Maxima SE (AT stripper w/moonroof) weighed in a 3,210lbs (Etown scale), the difference being closer to 100lbs (rather than the 150lbs I posted).

wow your car is pretty lean. Mine' a little porky considering I have everything in it, with navi. I do have my spare, and jack removed.

I was really trying to do a fair comparison with the maximas. You can't get a base stripped I35. All the lux features are standard except cold weather package which only adds the seat heaters and heated steering wheel and that's not much weight at all. A comparible maxima will have to be a GLE. Eventhough my cousin has a 03 SE Auto with everything and navi and it weighs just as much as my car with the body kit/spoiler and heavier 17 wheels.

Hey man.

I'll have to work my way up to getting my car like yours. It will be a slow process. Not like with the CL.

Cool

Hey, according to this article, the TL-S walks away from the I35.

If you want to mag race and use unheard of mags then we got http://www.car-data.com/xpage.compar...ainfinitilexus

Which puts the I35 faster than a TL and wins the performance category.

Anyway, I hate how the canadiandriver article always appears when you do a I35 vs TL-S google search. That's a GOOD thing for me. I like it when people read articles where they estimate 7.0-7.5 0-60 times OR think my car is "Slow" and then try to race me. LMAO!! Mag racing, caranddriver at 0-60 6.9 and motortrend 6.6 for the I35. We have crappy first second gear shifts (I mean VERY slow shifts). To fix that problem, you disconnect the TPS sensor and the first two shifts are very quick thus knocking off .1-3 ticks 0-60.

Still STOCK vs STOCK, my cl-s WAS faster than my I35.

skillmatic i have taken a couple of CL-S 5AT (maybe bad drivers) when i had just an intake i havent really had the opertunity to race a 6spd yet. maybe u need to practice driving your car and shifting it correctly (not tryin to be a dick) or your boy with the TL-S knows how to drive

thats still hard to believe that even with all your boltons you cant pull away from him. maybe hes got a factory freak

OK, I think I'm about to solve this annoying ass problem...

I just read up on the busted IMRC's, and from what I've read, it looks like that what I've got. So I just ordered myself a new IMRC from oemacuraparts.com. I know this is the problem, and I'm excited to get it fixed!

Im' usually slightly ahead until I shift out of 3rd, which is when I start to pull away. I'm just going to wait for this IMRC to come in, I'm just waiting for it in the mail, and two days later its still processing !

meh...im still waiting for my IMRC to come in the mail

im basically holding off running with him until i get my IMRC..everytime we do, its the same exact result, basically side by side for a second or two then once i shift out of third (SS mode of course), is where i usually pull away by a car or more...but ill let ya know how it goes once i get the imrc replaced!!

and

I dynoed last month, you can see my dyno #'s in the dyno gallery.

Remember that I still need to dyno it again with the Type-S intake manifold (upper/lower) and with the Outlaw TBs.

EDIT: It will also be getting S/C'ed and running juice by next year.

jeeez, my gooodness...just change this thread name to "ARE MODDED CL-s' SLOW?"

so i freakin picked up my cl-s from radley acura today after getting my IMRC replaced. i definitly feel a difference (and i made sure my imrc was busted, and made sure the new one now works, everything is A.OK). fug it though, ill get straight to it, my friend's tl-s w/ his damn intake is still keeping up...i am honestly just shocked right now..tomorrow im going to my shop and im getting this damn VTEC CONTROLLER GARBAGE uninstalled...alittle help here needed, might sound kinda noobish, but they can reset my vtec engagment point back to what it was before, like stock, right??
