stock exhaust costs

I called the dealer yesterday because i am considering getting the comptech exhaust, but just thought i would see how much the 03 stock mufflers. I have an 01, but like the tips on the 03, figured if they were cheap enough, i would just go with them. They said $200 per muffler, and $155 to put them on. I was quite shocked. Does this sound right?

You can get both mufflers for a little over $300 from acuraaotomotiveparts.org. Installation should be simple.

And like Chaptorial illuded to.. install it yourself. The exhaust was the first mod I ever did myself and it took me 40 min.. and most of that time was loosening the stock bolts. It bolts right on and I didn't even use a jack. Don't pay $155, that's a rip....

If you're going to go with stock mufflers, post something in the black market section. Someone must have a set for an 03' with low milage sitting in their garage. I know I will in a couple of months.

Yeah I'd hate to buy a set of factory mufflers. Do the comptechs come with an install guide, just in case? If i try this myself and can't get the new ones on, i am just gonna scream!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure when I'm going to do them. Although, if you want to buy my stock ones, I might bump it up a little. I was going to put sways on it first. Also, I'm trying to decide between mufflers or cat back ... any thoughts?

Not too sure about what you should do about catback or axle back, but I do know that I will buy your 03 exhausts

Maybe someone else can help ya out. Start a new thread so it can be seen better.

PS, you have an 03 CL-S correct?

Yes, I have a CL-S. I'll start a new thread in a month or so when I get closer to the install. I still haven't even registered the car! My temp plates are up next week ... maybe I should pay for that before I do too much to her!

So what's the difference between the 01 and 03 muffler tips? Pics?

I never noticed any difference.

The install for the Comptechs is the same for the stock exhaust. 2 bolts per side, & some elbow grease to get them off the hangers. It's REALLY easy.

They're mine all MINE!!!! muahahahah

Seriously tho, I have two reasons:

1. The new tip looks much better
2. I have a CL-P and the exhaust on mine is about 30% more restricted than the CL-S exhaust. So by putting CL-S exhaust on my car, I should see a nice gain.

I would get aftermarket exhausts, but I really like the stock exhausts.

The exahust for our car is an easy bolt on you could even do it with a jack and a wrench. Dont pay 155 for 15 mins of work. also 200 per muffler is a rip. that would be 555 for a stock part and install...buy a cat back from greddy for 700 if your gonna go that route

Yeah i agree, if i am gonna shell out a few hundred bucks, might as well get the comptech or greddy, think i am leaning towards teh comptechs. the tip on the greddy is a tad to big for my taste. But yes, the 03 tips look much better than the 01's, they fill the bumpter cut out much better.

pics of 03 exhaust

Don't pay anyone to install Comptech exhaust, it took me 30mins. Hardest part was pulling the stock exhaust out of the rubber hangers .. just hit them with wd40 and it slides right out. 4 bolts that hold the mufflers on came off with ease.

I like the way those stock ones look, got any pics of your car with the comptechs on? I will do it myself, my friend has a big garage, I will make him get on the ground and do it. He'll do anything if you have beer.

thanks, now what is weird is on some pics of the comptechs, the pipes look good, and on some they look real narrow and seem to get lost in the bumper cut out. Were the tips narrower on older ones? Hard to tell, some pics make me want to get the, and others make me hesitant.

I think the difference between the two is one has sports tips and one doesn't ... I think the first one doesn't.
