Steering wheel vibrations only between 55-65 ...

Otherwise, it seems fine. I speed to 80 and the steeringg is solid, below 45, same nice and soft no vibrations. Only when I am between 55 and 65 crusing speed i feel the steering wheels vibrations.

Is it a Charactertisc of the 235/40/18 tires?
...Wife said your car is not meant to be driven below 80

I've got your same tires and supposedly the tires grip so much that you feel the grooves and tiny bumps on the road. But if you know you are on a ceompletely flat road with no bumps, then you may need an alignment. My wheel was literally shaking spastically at certain speeds and after the alignment it was all good.

Balance the tires, this is the number one failure mode for out of balance tire.

I had the same thing on my M3. 50-60mph the steering wheel shook and below or above that it was solid. Take the car up to around 100 and see if you feel vibration in the wheel.

Either your wheels need balancing or they are bent. All my wheels turned out to be severely bent, just got new wheels.

I called and the tire guys said get it in for a quick look, i.e. "rebalancing"?

What do you mean severely bent? My wheels are less than 2 months old with some 2000 miles only? I did hit nothing lately, So, what is severely bent mean?

It is a possible to have a "bum" tire that is mot perfectly round due to manuf. defects Been there and done that, esp. with low profiles 55 series and under.
You may want to check it out after a good
ass rebalancing

mine vibrates too, I'm hoping that my tires are just out of balance. I did get a "new" refurbished rim, because the tire shop scratched my old one. So I'm just praying that they got the balancing wrong, because if they gave me a bent rim, I'm going to be pissed.

Friend had the same problem, tire rack screwed up the balancing (took off all wheel weights), dealer fixed it back. Definitely get it balanced, should fix it right up.

I got all four wheels on my A4 balanced for about $60. I probably could have had it done for cheaper, but I trust this shop. I had vibrations like you and it turned out that one rim was a little bent and another wheel that I had replaced (got severely bent and blew out a tire) wasn't balanced properly. Even still having the bent rim, the ride is much better after the balancing.

I don't mean to scare ya. I think mine was just a special case (maybe). You could see the bends in my wheels from the inner part of the wheel once it was taken off. Even if yours is a little bent, you can have the guys re-balance "as best they can", which helped me out alot once they did that.

Also, I was riding on a 35 profile in the front and 40 in the rear which contributes to my wheels being bent. Another thing as stated here might be a bad tire. If your steering wheel shakes, its something with your two front wheels/tires. I only had my wheels for about 3000 miles/3 months and messed them up, didn't even ride em hard.

alignment won't make a car shimmy (unless its toe'd in or out like crazy then it plows and chugs, find a dealer that does force balance - it loads the rim and tire and measures radial runout simulates road driving while checking the balance
