Starting Your Cl Or Any Car Question?

Have A Question, I Already Got My Tune Up About 1k Miles Ago, Changed The Plugs, Oil, Transmission. But How Come When I Start My Car Sometimes It Seems To Hesitate Especially When Its Cold, I Have 01 Cl-s W/ 85k. Its Not As Smooth To Start It. Could It B The Starter Or Alternator? Thanks

Damn dude you capitalized every beggining letter in that post...

It hesitates because it needs more gas to start is considering its getting cold now. Every car that i have ever had has done it.

it's getting colder here but I have not noticed any major changes in how long it takes the car to start. it has been down in the 20's when I have started my car

turn your key over for a few seconds to let your fuel injection charge...then start...should start in one crank

Probably the best advice on starting a car . My father taught me this a long time ago and I swear by doing it everytime I start my car. Not only for the fuel injection to get primed but also for the oil pump to pump an inital amount of oil for start-up. It erks me when people just put the key in and turn to start without pausing for two seconds.

People that don't use this method wonder why it takes more than a couple cranks to start their car when it's cold...also sometimes doesn't start at all.

This is the best method for starting EFI cars.

Agreed. Wait a second or two then hit the starter. Should work fine. As injectors age they can lose pressurization when not run for a few hours. Give the fuel system time to pressurize and you should be fine. All of the cars I have owned have done this with age.

Why would the oil pump be pumping if the motor isn't running? What, is Acura using an electric oil pump or something? Every car I've ever worked on has had a mechanical oil pump that only pumps when the motor is turning.

That's my method. I haven't had problems starting a car since my Maxima and that was when it had about 180K on the odometer.

Yep, you're right, I was wrong. I thought for some reason there was an electric primer that brought an inital amount of oil from the pan to the top of the motor, but you're right, there's only a mechanical pump that's driven off the engine crank turning, so really the only way to get oil to the top of the engine and build oil pressure is if the engine is turning. My bad.

That would be a good idea though - I don't know why car companies haven't come-up with anything like this. Then again, they really don't want our cars running for 300K miles because we might buy less new cars!
