SRS Light

Hi ,

My SRS light came on and will not go away. I had this problem back in Oct. Acura resetted it but it came back on today. Acura dealer told me that it could be the sensor module and to replace it is a few hundred (4-6) dollars. - car is out of warranty. Any suggestions ? Or any where I can get the sensor cheaper ?

thanks

My passenger seat sensor went out and was replaced. Sometimes the light goes on when I have a bag or small item in the seat. I just whac the seat and the light goes out. Try it before you go to the dealer.

The light that come on when there is something on the passanger seat is not usually the SRS light. It's the side airbag light.

dacura - how many miles are on you CL? I had sensors replaced twice on my car. If it's out of warrenty, there's a paper-clip fix that you may use to turn the light off. I'm not sure what it will do with the deployment of your air-bags, so you can decide if to it or not.

It is a yellow connector with two wires in it that is plugged into the fuse box, unplug it and pull it down. Once you have done that you can begin the process of erasing the memory. NOTE: This will only reset your SRS System if what caused it to trigger has been fixed, Ex: turning the ignition on with any SRS Plugs disconnected, such as pulling your seat out.

1st step in erasing the memory is to turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service connector to the MES Plug,

2nd Turn Ignition on. SRS indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.

3rd Disconnect SCS service connector for MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come on again.

4th Reconnect SCS service connector the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes on. SRS indicator light will go off.

5th Disconnect SCS service connector from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.

6th Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal. You have reset your SRS light, congrats.

If it does not work the first time try it again, the timing has to be perfect. My first time it took me 3 attempts before it worked, but it did work.

thanks Ravi. I have 66000 miles on it and it first happened at 62000 miles and they charged me 86 dollars to just have it resetted. Obviously, they don't know what the problem is. It's not the sideairbag light that comes on but the SRS light.

thanks for the instructions. I haven't decided what i want to do at this point. Airbags are kind of important.

If you don't think they know what they're doing, you need to take it to another dealer. Personally, I would not feel safe thinking the air bags may not deploy if I wrecked. When mine came on the last time, I couldn't get it in to Acura for a week, so I parked it and drove my beater. Get a second opinion from another dealer.

Mine came on twice. Both times it was the computer. The second time they put a new type of computer in for me. They said something to the effect of the computer having new software for this type of issue and they also said that they got a bad reading from the passenger seat sensor. I would take it to another dealer. Sounds like they're just guessing.

this is called the give the dealer a couple hundred bucks for a stupid blinking light routine.

sucks.....

edit: as far as why its on. Of course safety is important, but fuck an instrument cluster for affecting the airbags. I want a system that responds to Forces, not electircal conductance.

My understanding is that this fix is OK to do. If there is a real problem, the light will come back on.

wow lucky you Mich at 49,950 miles.

I'm still waiting for Acura TLC to call back. My dealer recommended that I call them to see if they would do anything out of coutesy.
