Squeeking in the rear
Squeeking in the rear
Hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out what the hell is this squeeking noise from the back of my car. I want to say its from the magnaflow cans rubbing on the bumper. Or maybe something with the suspension?
It happens everytime I drive on a dip or a bump. I thought I could just brush it by but its starting irk me more and more lately. Hopefully its not my shocks being bad or something

I have a similiar issue with my CL.
When I drive over these crappy little bumps my car makes all kinds of squeeks and chirps.
Does that mean that my shocks are shot?
Any ideas?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. You made the title too inviting lol.
On a more serious note... the noise could be just about anything... Does it sound more like metal on metal or rubber/metal? Does it seem to be more obvious when its cold out? Or when the car has warmed up? I had a squeeking problem coming from the front, and i jacked up the left side one day which caused the wheel to hang down pulling the spring and it somehow fixed the problem...

Ha ha...yeah fresh out of those!
No...I have my Comptech front sway sitting in my studio waiting to be installed and stock suspension at the moment.
I'm clueless where to start...seems hard to diagnose.

Same thing happened to me.
THE PROBLEM:
Check where the rear trunk springs meet in the middle of the trunk, under the 3rd brake light. The two springs are attached with a plastic clip to a metal bracket. The bracket is only tack welded in two places. In my case, the whole bracket came detached from the roof of the trunk and every time I hit a bump, they would hit each other. My trunk still operated normally.
THE FIX:
I unclipped the placstic piece from the bracket only, while keeping it attached to the two springs. I then used a drill to drill out the two rivits/spot welds on the bracket. I then reattached the bracket to the plastic clip, and then attached the bracket to the roof of the trunk with two metal screws. Everything should then be fine.
